They're gonna lose tonight, so it won't matter.

Embid's good but doubt he gets to be MVP. Nice to see the Sixers playing well again though.

If it comes down to which player has done the most to make his team successful then the level of success the team reaches matters. That is 1 of the main reasons I don't think Embiid is even in the MVP discussion. Westbrook is putting up good enough numbers to be an exception.

If the 6'ers win 50 games, I think Joel E. should be in the MVP talk. With him, they may end up 3rd in the east, without him, they would be back in the lottery. I know about Lebron, and Harden, but do they mean as mucch to their teams as Joel means to the 6'ers?
No. No all around. Love him, but no.

No he shouldn't.

I actually think Ben Simmons might be more valuable than Embiid. He does everything. Without Simmons they are back in the lottery also.
I agree this. He dictates the pace of the game for the team and has been great not he defensive end. The fact people think there's a debate for ROY is crazy to me. To put Joel in the MVP race would be similarly crazy to me.

Agreed.

Mitchell has had a great year. But Simmons is special. People who are trying to make this close are overanalyzing it.

Yep.

I have conceded on Mitchell.

But, how do we explain Harden over LeBron for MVP?

Voter fatigue?

When you look at the ISO data, Harden brings it all on himself.
And he performs with remarkable efficiency.

36% USG rate for Harden compared to 31.6 for LBJ.
Harden has a slightly better PER (30.1 to 28.8) and their TS% are very similar (.619 for Harden vs .625 for LBJ).

I would vote for Harden.

Yep, with LeBron and MJ the only reason they didn't win more MVPs.

His pros vs. LeBron are not as substantial as his cons...imo

LeBron may cherry pick the times that he displays elite defensive abilities.

But, Harden is the quintessential one way player.

Plus, this is such a polarizing topic because of our perception of what this award represents.

Is it the award for the best player or the player that is most valuable to his particular franchise?

I personally think LeBron is both.

Take him off the Cavs, they are playing for pingpong balls.

Houston with Paul would still make the playoffs.

Lebron is still the best player in the league. So if MVP were based on that then he would win every year.

But it isn't so he doesn't.

Houston is going to wind up with the best record in the league and likely the favorites to win the title. Harden is the best player on the best team and his numbers are comparable to Lebron's so he's going to win it.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but there is a bit of a difference between making the playoffs as a 7 or 8 seed and having the best record in the NBA. Knock off the best player from most teams and their WIN% tends to drop.

As flyerhawk mentioned, I also believe LBJ is the best player in the league.
But, and the stats back this up, based on the way that HOU plays and how Harden is utilized, he is my MVP.

What a shocking development. He looked pretty good! I think Raptors fans just pissed themselves about possibly facing Philly in the second round.

Wrong. Not even in the conversation.

Next.

538 projects us to overtake CLE for the 3rd seed.
The game we have left with CLE is looming large...

It's possible but 538 probably isn't factoring in how much of an impact Love has on that team.

I think the Cavs, at worst, lose 3 games to finish out which gets them to 50 wins. The Sixers would need to win 8 of their last 9 to overtake the Cavs in that case because the Cavs would get the tiebreaker due to winning their division, which is really dumb but the rule.
