I just got a new blu ray player and I need some good suggestions on the first blu ray to buy.

My old lady doesn't see what the big deal is with blu rays so I want to impress. Something with impressive visuals or sound would be nice. Thanks.

I've never figured out the difference between the two, except that DVDs supposedly don't play on blue-rays?

DVD'S play fine on bluray. An upconverter on the BRD player will take a standard DVD up to 720p.

no **** on Blu Ray

some things are not meant for high def, and should always have just enough blur to cover the acne, bruises, razor burn and c-section scars.

lmao! so true... I worked in a strip club for years, red lights hide a lot.

Planet earth.
assuming you have a decent TV to go with, it's pretty awesome.

true this

If you really want to show the difference, something like planet earth shot specifically for high def is really cool and on a big flat screen will be redunkulous.

Depending on your TV I would say "Dark City" or if you want to go newer "Inception" was pretty awesome on Blue-Ray.

Planet Earth is a good idea. I already own it on DVD but I might rent for the blu ray.

I also own Star Trek and 300. I guess I am hoping for a new movie but there doesn't seem to be many quality flicks out right now (Dances with Smurfs doesn't count as a good movie).

Maybe a quick trip to Blockbuster is in my future.

EDIT: I didn't think about Inception

It might be an interesting journey, do they still have stores in your area?

If you have kids Toy Story 3, especially if you have a decent surround/sub set up.

Saving Private Ryan, Iron Man.. google helped me out a lot. I got a shitload of Blu-Ray torrents.

Yes. There is one a mile or so from my house. I like it better than Netflicks, I never plan it out well enough to get the movies when I want them. And I don't have a wait on new movies.

Although the employees are only slightly better than at Walmart.
