Maybe once the line gets a RB that can find the holes and get to them in a timely manner people will stop blaming all the woes on the line.

But then again that means someone might actually say something bad about Rex and we can't have that.

I will report immediately to the flogging room for saying such blasphemy about the god that is Rex.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Rex is a serviceable RB. He's not gonna make a lot of people miss, but if there's a hole he'll gain some yards. He'll also get a yard or two after contact. He seems to be a very unselfish/giving individual and I applaud him for that as much as I applaud cub scouts and brownies for giving of their time to the needy. However, he's not a complete back in talent the likes of LP.

sometimes I wonder if Rex is more of a small FB than RB. I think he would have done great in the old I formation triple option offense.

Exactly!!!

I've said that before as well.

Neither Martinez or Burkhead are gonna make people miss. They are N/S runners and the difference between the two is Martinez isn't gonna run anyone over and get a couple more yards.

Nebraska's offense relies upon a hole being there and a defender being out of position giving the QB or RB unimpeded field to the endzone.

If they cannot do this they are sure to eventually get a holding, false start or personal foul to kill any sense of a drive.

^^^ that is why we really need to start getting the tight ends more involved........

The little reliable 5-7 yard dump offs really kill a defense looking to stop a north/south rushing attack.

When you start getting the LBs back on their heels a bit, this is when that zone read really starts to become effective. Less gaps filled at the line of scrimmage, and more room to run

I used to love calling running plays inside. get them Safeties LB's cheating up then kill 'em with a TE dump. I'd run dives for 10 plays just baiting them.

Then I would giggle when they get burned.

Same way with bootlegs. Dive, dive, ISO, dive. Then fake the dive and nekked that bitch the other way.

LOL good times....

NU doesn't run the 'Zone Read' anymore tho.

irule sez it's the 'Power Spread' :noidea:

My personal opinion is that the Spread has been dead for about 4 years. It was actually very short lived.

Well, I shouldn't say we run strictly a zone read, because in 2011 I saw a ton of different formations in comparison to 2010. I definitely don't see how it was a spread offense though. When I think of spread offenses I think of Missouri.

We definitely still do run a zone read quite often, and it can be very effective for us in my opinion.

I call our offense option football........and thats not to be confused with the option football of old, because the type of option football we play now has many more looks and is way more multiple.

Exactly

Pelini shut that bitch down after one year (w/ an inexperienced D) and everyone else learned from it. Misery ain't been the same since..

Pelini Match-Up Zone = Spread killer. Does pretty okay against Pro style systems too.

I tell you what though you might see only one or two defenses in the NFL run a 2 gap and they won't be very good.

**You have to respect Pelini for how well he teaches match up zone though. They say it time and again: It's the toughest back seven scheme to teach in college football, but if your guys can get it they will be dominant.
