Season series: San Jose Sharks goalie Troy Grosenick made 45 saves in his NHL debut, a 2-0 win against the Carolina Hurricanes on Nov. 16.
Hurricanes team scope: Carolina ends a four-game road trip looking for a second win after defeating the Arizona Coyotes 2-1 in a shootout on Thursday. "It's going to be another good test for us. [The Sharks are] a good hockey team," coach Bill Peters told the Hurricanes website. "We've got a chance to finish on a high note, for sure." Defenseman Ryan Murphy was injured in the first period Thursday, and defenseman John-Michael Liles wound up playing a season-high 25:50. Liles has an assist in back-to-back games. The Hurricanes are 8-3-3 in 2015 but have moved up only one position in the NHL standings, from 29th to 28th. Carolina will be off until Thursday, when it hosts the Anaheim Ducks.
Sharks team scope: San Jose used six rookies in a 5-1 win at the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday; forward Chris Tierney scored his first NHL goal in his 16th game, and forward Daniil Tarasov got his first NHL point in his debut. "[The rookies] had an impact on the game," coach Todd McLellan said afterward, according to CSN Bay Area. "We looked for them to provide energy and some enthusiasm, and they did that as well." The Sharks play seven of 10 games at home before the end of the month; they are 14-8-4 at SAP Center.
