My kids and I, the first time we heard this "jingle..." we died laughing. We imagined that the marketing wizards who created it were sitting around going, "Liberty, Liberty, Liberty...huh, there's till time left. Screw it, let's add one more Liberty"

Good lord. They’ve had that option with Baylor for decades.

I don't agree.

As already stated, there are LOTS of smaller schools all across the country who are affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. Nobody has ever had a lockdown on the majority of those students. Baylor's enrollment is about 16K, less than half the size of Liberty.

When I was growing up in SC, we had four colleges that were at least partially funded by the SBC: Anderson, Furman, North Greenville, and what was then Baptist College of Charleston, now known as Charleston Southern. At that time, the only one offering football was Furman. Most of the SBC kids in state who wanted a "christian" college and could play football went to Furman.

I can imagine that, in other states where the SBC had a large presence, there were in-state schools that would have been more attractive than going to Waco. We do live in different times now, and a school like Baylor, or like Liberty, can benefit from greater exposure through social media, the internet, and -- the football team. I think Liberty has a greater chance of doing it than Baylor ever had.

Nah, Waco ain't in the deep south.

Is Wake Forest considered deep south?

Wake as well. My point is if SBC players were flocking to a Baptist D1 school, they had options. Thrust won’t be flocking to a Liberty.

Wake and Baylor are as or more “Deep South” than Liberty.

Wake is officially non-denominational now.

Which basically means they are still Baptist but don't want to get stuck with the baggage that comes with the name.

Baptist College of Charleston changed their name for similar reasons. It was hard to get non-baptist students to enroll.

Furman completely left the SBC back in the 90's because they were only receiving less than a percent of their annual budget from the Convention, which was still telling them how to run everything.

Exactly...with the right coach they could start to do some damage. No, they're not going to challenge for the playoffs and probably no league outside of the Sun Belt would want them, but they could wind up being that team that ruins some P5 season

I don't agree with the Sun Belt possibility.

The Sun Belt dumped New Mexico St and Idaho and have
stated their intention to remain a 10-team league.

However, They are a prime target for C-USA. Those people
grabbed Old Dominion and UNCC, they'll look long and hard
at Liberty.

That school has all sorts of possibilities. They've just gone out
and made a strong commitment to improving their program.

Winning matters.

But winning BIG really matters.

Turner Gill just resigned the other day (obviously forced out). Turner is as Christian and God-fearing a man as you'll ever meet on this planet. He is the guy you want your daughter to marry.

Just 2 years ago Liberty then went out and got the AD from Baylor. You know, the guy really behind the whole Baylor/Art Briles shove it under the rug sex scandal, right?

And his first move is to get rid of God-fearing guy and bring in Hugh Freeze.

Even at the largest Christian University on the entire planet that was founded by Jerry Falwell, winning matters. Not only winning, but winning big.

Now that they are FBS, even Liberty has sold their soul to the devil.
