...and will he be thanking his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ today?

Brett Favre 2.0

Selfishly leaving that franchise in tatters that'll take 5-7 years to recover from.

LOL @ the Saints.

How soon before Sean Payton is announced as the new head coach of the Dallas Cowboys and gets the hell out of that piss-soaked abomination known as New Orleans?

I think the Saints D is the bigger problem. If they were even average the Saints would probably be 6-4.

Defense is what usually separates the good teams from the bad ones.

He's a troll so he's too ignorant to notice that. Don't waste your time. Just let this troll thread die. This is a 6-4/7-3 team with an average defense.

I saw Favre at the end and this isn't close to as bad. Remember, the guy threw 7 TDs and was about 40 yards from breaking the single game mark for yardage just a couple weeks ago. That defense is the bigger problem.

NFL morning after: Rob Ryan and the worst pass defense ever

"But there’s another passing touchdown record that probably will be broken this season: The record for most touchdown passes allowed by a defense. The current record is 40, set by the Denver Broncos in 1963. (The Broncos were an American Football League team, but the NFL adopted all of the AFL’s records when the leagues merged.) The Saints are on pace to obliterate that dubious record.

Yesterday the New Orleans defense gave up four touchdown passes to Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins in the Saints’ 47-14 loss. That upped the Saints’ defensive total this year to 28 touchdown passes allowed this year, in 10 games. The Saints are now on pace to allow 45 touchdown passes this season, easily beating that 1963 Broncos record."

Saints are 16th in cap hit at the QB position in the NFL. A couple spots behind San Fran.

The Brees cap hit is a lot less than the cap hit for Junior Galette, David Hawthorne, and Brandon Browner. (Browner and Hawthorne are not in the NFL this year. Galette is on IR for the Redskins).

3 minutes left in the 3rd when he got the ball for the first time when it wasn't after a Falcons TD.

Less than 8 minutes left to play and that's the first time Brees got the ball where it wasn't off a score by the Falcons.

Football outsiders does a defensive simple ranking. Last year Saints were 32nd. Bears were 31st. Bears were closer to being 12th (ahead of NE) than they were to being last. That's how awful the Saints D was... Not just dead last, but one of the worst defenses ever.

Saying Brees gets a lot of money is just a crutch. With the way they coach/draft/aquire FA's on that defense, it doesn't matter if they had another 5-10 mil for it or not. The only reason their games aren't complete blowouts by halftime is their offense has one of the most productive passing games in the league.

Where are you getting your info? Brees' cap his is $24,250,000 this year. Second highest in the league behind Luck.

True...Brees salary is not the reason the Saints are struggling...as you were eluding to, $37 mil in dead money, and $10.9 mil for Jarius Bryd are probably bigger factors.

They have some promising young talent on DEF...CB PJ Williams (on IR), LB Stephone Anthony, DT Sheldon Rankins (on IR) , LB Kihaha (PUP)

But...I've wondered they wouldn't trade Brees as well...not that anything is wrong with Brees, but they're not close enough to being a playoff team with him playing well.

Spotrac and OTC both show him at $17.2 mil this yr.
Gotcha - my bad.
So the Saints are kicking that can further down the road. They far and away lead the league in dead cap money and looks like they will for a few years more.

Yep...a $19mil cap hit in '17 is high, but not untradeable if they so chose next year, b/c the Saints will be on the hook for the remaining signing bonus cap hit for '18, - '20...more dead money.

the saints were bad and unexditing to watch for a long long time before they even won their first playoff game......at least having brees around makes the current badness more tolerable to watch. he aint getting traded anytime soon.

His new extension changed that cap hit. Currently at 17.25 million. Between Cutler and Alex Smith. Next year it is 19 million, just behind Brock Osweiler.

The issue to me isn't that they have 1 million LESS in cap space devoted to their QB than San Fran and Chicago with the production they are getting offensively. It's that they have 5-10 million MORE in cap space invested in their defense than Minny and Philly and are getting that production on that side of the ball.

But it's not where the 10% of their cap is going to with Brees. It's the other 90% being wasted. It's using Brees getting paid what he's worth as a cop out instead of seeing that the rest of their cap spending has been awful. That team pays nearly as much as Seattle on safeties (2nd most in the league for NO). Can you even name their safeties?

For a team that currently is 1st in pass yards, 1st in pass TD's, has only 1 INT, 1st in first downs, despite being 28th in rush yards, 5th in scoring with the 3rd worst starting field posision... I have no issue that they spend there on what's producing.

Saints are spending 48 mil on current defensive players and another 27 mil in dead money on other defensive guys, top 5 in the league in cap hit on their D when you add in the dead money vs. other teams on D.

75 million cap hit this year tied to the D in NO. 71 mil in Minny. 77 million is what Denver spends on theirs. 78 Mil for Seattle. 66 is what Philly is spending on theirs. They aren't a 3 mil a year nickelback signing from being an elite defense even if they are just 3 mil from having the same cap hit as Denver there.

That said, I would not be against them moving Brees for draft picks and going full bore rebuild. But as long as Loomis is making the moves he is (or Payton or whomever) Throwing another 10 mil at the D and not having a QB isn't going to make that team better if he's making the draft picks and signing the FA's.
