Suspending JR Smith for today's game is a joke. I guess he should have just punched Terry in the nuts like Ibaka did to Griffin and would have only received a fine.

Stern's way of just trying to extend the series.

How did the league look at this and not clearly see Terry exaggerate the contact. He waited 2 seconds before he reacted.

It was a pretty malicious move by JR, but I can't defend Stern's arbitrariness at all nor would I put it past the league to try and use something like that to extend the series.

I was always taught that you can use your elbows to protect the ball but you have to move your entire body in a pivot-like motion, which JR clearly was not doing. Instead, JR was totally clearing space recklessly in reaction to the swat without looking at all at where/if the elbow landed. That warrants some reprehension.

Not that malicious, especially after the hack Terry made trying for the ball.

Maybe they should get JR for the elbow and Terry as well for the flopping.

Which I have no problem with because he was kicked out of the game. But to suspend him also?

Worse things have been done in the regular season without reprehension.

I'm with you, JD, on the suspension being a bit overkill and wouldn't put it past Stern to manipulate a series.

RIP did the same thing to Derozen a few weeks ago and got suspended as well. You can't expect to elbow someone on purpose in the throat/face area and not get suspended. If he elbow him in the chest he is playing today.

If you elbow someone in the neck intentionally you're getting suspended.

He got mad for what? Because Terry was playing defense and attempted to reach for the ball? He needs to grow. Guys reach for the ball on EVERY POSSESSION. Is he now going to elbow every player in the throat who reach for the ball while guarding him?

Smith is another one of those immature players in the league that really needs to grow up

Probably influenced a bit by JR's reputation too, which I totally disagree with being a factor in these things.

Throwing out a player in the 4th quarter with the game already decided is not much of a penalty.

If this happened in the first quarter I don't think he gets suspended honestly.

I disagree. Richard Hamilton did the same exact thing to the dude on Toronto a few weeks ago and he does not have a bad reputation at all. If you elbow someone intentionally around the neck area you're going to get suspended

Good point, BK. Forgot about the unwritten "shoulders up" rule the league seems to use when handing out suspensions.

So why did Terry feel the need to hack JR so hard "allegedly" going for the ball? Then Terry has to be restrained after flopping.

He was the instigator the whole time.

Looks like Boston is trying its best to avoid being swept. Leading by about 20 at the half.
