The Patriots, Cowboys, Steelers, and Packers all have villain status. The most followed teams in the league, and have had a history of success. People become jealous and start to build up hatred.

The Seahawks could earn villain status with a few more successful seasons. They definitely have villain status here on the board.

I don't think anyone outside of Cleveland, Cincinnati and Baltimore actually hates the Steelers. I tend to pull for the Steelers if they're not playing the Broncos or Falcons. I think a lot of people are attracted to their "blue collar" style of play they have used historically.

Haters are everywhere though. And sometimes people will hate you just for waiting. And I'm sure they've gained a lot more haters since the Big Ben controversy.

I like the logic.

I'm generally a contrarian myself, sort of an against the prevailing current kind of guy.

And i'm staring to like the Steelers.

Even felt a wee bit verklempt when they lost today.

Someone on BTSC posed this question, and I'm curious to see who most people view as the league "villains". As a Steelers fan I think the Patriots would take the cake, even though I'm not a Patriot hater.

Have the Pittsburgh Steelers earned villain status in the NFL?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by villain but if you mean dirty players I think right now that would be Cincy...
If you mean most disliked team, it's no contest ,NE....
If you mean smash mouth, Pitts fits in there along with the top 3 in the AFCN....
Carolina,Denver, Seattle all fit in that category too....

EXACTLY... Jealousy is the root of this hatred.

If being successful means being a villain, then I'm perfectly fine with that.

Congrats on the season. Despite everything that happened with injuries and such, they were a couple plays away from being in the AFCCG against the Pats. The Steelers are one of the favorites going into next year for sure. Tomlin might start feeling a little heat though. You would assume for the Steelers the expectations are SB or bust.

Rooney's are probably the last franchise in the NFL that would ever give that sort of ultimatum. We can suffer through a decade of mediocrity before a coach "steps down".

Definitely proud of this team and the entire franchise. They fought through A LOT of adversity, not more than some teams but still quite a bit. I'm just glad they continue to prove the doubters & naysayers wrong. Prior to the season not many analysts, or anyone really, gave the Steelers a shot at finishing better than 8-8. Then all of the sudden they have one of the best offenses in the league and then all of the sudden every media outlet nationwide is riding their dick. Funny how that happens.

2016 is hopefully going to be a big year for the Steelers. They have some contracts to work out in the offseason, but hopefully the magic stays intact.

And that's the way it should be. The best teams all have one thing in common. Consistency.

Yea its not doing anyone any good by giving them an ultimatum after 2-3 years... Rex, Lovie... Those franchises are going to be turned into a laughingstock because of it.

Seems to be that is the case (people saying teams are villians).. I am thinking the OP using the article meant actually "villains"but I wouldn't call them that yet, the Bengals, yes

I like the Steelers well enough though I really don't like Tomlin.

Another thought, what ever happened to Mother Marge?

I don't think the Cowboys count as villains anymore. People just hate them for their undeserved exposure at this point. The Cowboys haven't been a relevant playoff threat in decades. Just 3 wildcard round wins in the 20 years since they're last super bowl.
