Beamerball has yet to be a major factor this year, so I think both games will be closer than 17 pts. Both teams feature defensive lines good enough to hamper our running game, so I am actually kind of nervous about getting the wins.

I still remember being at the Thursday night game vs UNC and losing on a Ryan Williams fumble. Had some west coast friends in town for it (Oregon students) and the shit they talked seemed to never end. Deservedly so that night :smow:

North Carolina still has a decent amount of talent. We've also struggled against their defense more times than not within the last few years. Combine that with their recent embarrassment against NC State and extra time to prepare, and I think this will be a tough game. The home field can be a big asset for this game.

When the Hokies are on offense, I think there will be more of a focus on the passing game early on. Georgia Tech could not physically compete against our ground attack, but Carolina has the line to slow it down significantly. IMO, their weakness is in the defensive backfield, when Tech can mix in the short screens with some deeper routes. I think Danny Coale's route running is going to be very effective, so I'm hopeful that the gameplan opens up with some tendancy breaking middle routes. Just attempting these passes will pull the defense away from the line, allowing room for Wilson to take off. If things go well, look for a shift back to the running game as the game progresses.

I think the biggest challenge for the defense this week is going to be avoiding the big play. UNC is 3rd in the ACC in 30+ yard scrimmage plays, while we are 8th in defending them. It's been the one glaring issue in the defense this year. I doubt that Carolina can continously drive on our defense without some big plays. I also doubt that they can avoid turning the ball over. They've had a number of games with significant turnover losses, and lost every game, besides horrible Rutgers, when they gave up more than one turnover. I'm looking out for more zone coverage, with a few calculated blitzes to try and pickup some turnovers.

I think we come out gunning for UVA. The fact they are having a decent season and the recruiting "facts" London is throwing out there about VT will have the coaches fired up and am sure the players will be the same.

I would like nothing more than to drop 70 on them. UVA fans will leave by half if down by 2 TDs. We will once again own Scott Stadium.

I would love this too but I think that UVA's running game will keep it a low scoring game as well as our running game.

Probably so..It would almost be nice to see us come out pass strong and going for the kill early though. Probably can't throw Minnifield's way but maybe Coale could burn Trey Nicholson deep. Would serve him right for picking UVGAY..

Minnifield is the most overrated DB since Ras-I Dowling. He got burned by Duke WRs a lot and ended up losing his cool and got away with throwing a punch at Renfree.

Keys to the game:
Logan Thomas' Arm -- He should have plenty of opportunities to complete passes to wide open WRs, so if he can do that they have a good shot.
Carolinas o-line -- Has to play one of their best games of the season...or Carolina really has no shot.
