Game 1 vs those Commie Bastages from sfgate...
UPDATE, 6:21 P.M.: We just got the Giants’ Division Series roster.
They are taking 12 pitchers, the five starters plus Sergio Romo, Jeremy Affeldt, Javier Lopez, Santiago Casilla, Jose Mijares, Guillermo Mota and George Kontos, who might have sealed his spot by striking out Matt Kemp in L.A. on Tuesday.
The five reserves are Xavier Nady, Hector Sanchez, Aubrey Huff, Ryan Theriot and Joaquin Arias. The Giants are not taking one of their speedier guys to pinch-run for Huff if he reaches base. Manager Bruce Bochy said the other day that Huff’s knee has felt better of late.
ORIGINAL POST: Bruce Bochy just completed his workout-day news conference. He said he might announce the roster for the Division Series against Cincinnati after the Giants work out ends at about 5:30. He and the staff plan one more meeting to finalize it.
The only other bit of news is that Gregor Blanco will be the left fielder in Game 1.
Nady has some good number against Reds starter Johnny Cueto (5-for-8 with a homer), but those are from 2008 and 2010. Bochy obviously wants to go with the better glove. Plus, Blanco has hit better lately.
Bochy will go with his standard lineup facing right-handed pitchers:
Pagan CF
Scutaro 2B
Sandoval 3B
Posey C
Pence RF
Belt 1B
Blanco LF
Crawford SS
Cain P
A few other notes:
Matt Cain said in his press conference he believes he would be able to pitch on three days’ rest if needed in Game 4 at Cincinnati. “I’m pretty sure I’d be physically fine. That’s something I’ll let Bochy figure out,” Cain said. That would happen only if the Giants were down 2-1 in an elimination game.
Bochy has told Barry Zito, Ryan Vogelsong and Tim Lincecum the plans for Games 3-4-5 but does not want to announce them because they might have to work in relief during the two games here.
