even if they do deserve the death penalty, the ncaa wont do it until after guys like winston graduate and they start declining. the ncaa makes too much money now from FSU to do the right thing.

Couple of things on both sides:

1.) FSU folks who are saying "He hadn't played yet." - Was Jameis some "unknown quantity"? Was he a walk-on who suddenly "burst onto the scene" last season? Or did FSU recruit him and give him a schollie because they thought he might be a pretty good football player?

2.) The folks calling him a rapist - While it appears that FSU (among others) handled this about as badly as they could have, we still don't know (and may never know) if a r*pe actually occurred or not. If you want to criticize FSU for how they handled it, fine. It certainly appears that they deserve it. But claiming a r*pe occurred when he hasn't even been charged, let alone convicted, is bullshit.

I think the fact that FSU is finally holding a discipline hearing, only after public pressure though, speaks volumes because they know know they have screwed up big time. Why wasn't Winston included in the hearings with the other two players earlier? There is no good reason.

On the other side anything printed by the NYT should be suspect they've had more issues with story manipulation than any paper in the country.

Let's review the facts.
1. Jameis Winston is an extremely talented football player. He has been since elementary school. He was one of the most highly sought recruits in the region, hell, the nation.
2. He was accused of r*pe, not smoking pot, not drinking, not a simple assault, r*pe!
3. The investigation dragged on for a long time. Accusations of political manipulation and cover up began almost from the beginning. The victim, in spite of incredible personal pressure, embarrassment, and publicity, sticks to her story.
4. This isn't the only problem with the young man. Even folks in his hometown, where they'd like to make him a hero, have told of events that put his character into question.
5. He was accused of shoplifting. The video has gone viral.
6. He shouted out an incredibly offensive sexual slogan in front of a female in a crowed cafeteria, his words and behavior witnessed by dozens, if not hundreds of people.
7. After only a token suspension he is back playing.

And of course, our FSU fans, so blinded by team loyalty can't add these facts, not opinions, facts, up. Why is this so hard for them to figure out? Oh, that's right, they're fans. Most of us sadly, do the the same when confronted with uncomfortable news that attacks our team, which we consider practically family.

Denial, denial.....

3. The investigation was shelved for a long time. Accusations of political manipulation and cover up began almost from the beginning and apparently 'swept under the rug' by the TPD, Campus Police, University and Athletic Dept. The victim, in spite of incredible personal pressure, embarrassment, and publicity, sticks to her story.

When the dumb asses in the athletic department start hiding things from the Title IX officer, they are sending a message that Football is more valuable at Florida State than the School of Medicine, the College of Science, the College of Engineering, or any other academic program that is funded by federal agencies such as NSF, NIH, DOE, DOD, etc.

If anything is going to get the attention of schools with major athletics programs when it comes to Title IX, it will be a loss of federal funding for their academic programs.

Pretty frackin' stupid, Florida State. Pretty frackin' stupid.
