FSU did not admit to liability in the settlement, which university president John Thrasher said the school agreed to in order to avoid additional litigation expenses.

“We have an obligation to our students, their parents and Florida taxpayers to deal with this case, as we do all litigation, in a financially responsible manner,” Thrasher said in a statement. “With all the economic demands we face, at some point it doesn’t make sense to continue even though we are convinced we would have prevailed.”


This was "go away" money. FSU was tired of paying lawyers.

I'm familiar with the FSU Boosters account. SegalRogersCasey manages it and it's big. When alumni have nothing to brag about but their school's football team, they give generously to it...even when it gets wasted like this.

So let me get this straight. A woman can accuse a man of r*pe, no charges filed, no evidence to convict but she can extort the school he attended just cause?

I smell a business opportunity here.

it's worse than that. the male can also be kicked out of the school, named in papers, but the accuser is kept private even when all charges are dropped or it is even proven that the accusation was false.
