I'm making a series of threads in which you compare the best five items of food that you've ever had. You post the food item, give a picture if you can find one, give the restaurant and address, and any brief right up that you can (if you want to). Our first one is going to be sandwiches, but I look to expand to beer, whiskey, coffee, cake/pie, burgers, pizza, and any others I can think of. I picked sandwiches because who doesn't fucking love sandwiches? Also, rank them in descending order from 5 to 1. Obviously, we're going to get a lot of different sandwiches from a lot of different areas, which I think makes it fun for us. Without further ado,

5. Grilled Cheese- Home Grown Cafe. 126 E Main Street Newark, DE 19711. Holy shit, this thing is good. So many fucking cheeses and the pesto is perfect.

4. Cheesesteak- Maryland Avenue Sub Shop. 623 Maryland Ave Wilmington, DE 19805. Located right in the hood of Wilmington. You basically have to run in and run out, but it's fucking worth it. Second best cheesesteak of my life... (This is a poor picture and doesn't do it justice, but man this thing is fucking great).

3. Italian Hoagie- Gaudiello's Italian Hoagies. 29A Trolley Sq. Wilmington, DE 19806. Best Italian I've ever eaten.

2. Cheesesteak- Goodfella's Steaks and Subs. 3206 Kirkwood Hwy. Wilmington, DE 19808. Forget Philly, Wilmington, DE has the greatest cheese steak you'll ever have. Everytime I go somewhere else I have a sliver of hope that something will best it, but you truly can't. Unfortunately I couldn't find a picture, but that's OK because that gives me a reason to go tomorrow and show you all just how delicious they are.
1. The Bobbie- Capriotti's. Various locations. No description needed.

Top 5 specific sandwiches is way beyond me. But I can probably narrow it down to 5 types. In no particular order.

1. Philly cheesesteak. It's close, but probably my favorite of the various steak sandwiches.
2. Shrimp po boy. So good, but so hard to find authentic outside of New Orleans.
3. Tuna Melt. This is a close one for me. It's about 50-50 on a regular grilled cheese with a bowl of tomato soup vs a tuna melt by itself.
4. Gyro. I love em, I love em, I love em!
5. Calzone. Pizza sauce and topping.
5b. Chicken Ceasar wrap. Sorry couldn't keep it to 5. A salad to go, I love a good wrap.

I consider burgers, wraps, calzones, stromboli, even burritos and tacos as pretty much a sandwich. So my honorable mention list is about a mile long, but I think those are probably my top 6.

One of, if not my all time faves is a hot Pastrami/Corned Beef combo with plenty of mustard at Katz' deli in NYC...Hard to beat...

Here is just Pastrami... :suds:

The 11 City Diner in Chicago has some amazing sandwiches.

This with a nice tangy deli mustard along with a kosher dill pickle:

This sandwich is tied with the above:

Its a sausage/beef combo with arguably the best Gardiner ever made.......Portillos in Chicago and surrounding areas.

One of my top five is made by me......

Sorry no pick, but grilled cheese made with real butter, slice of american cheese,a slice of Wisconsin pepper jack on beefsteak rye....... Or Jewish dill rye.

And that my friends is an awesome grilled cheese......:10:

the other gotta think about.....

Mine is simple.
I love the classic Club Sandwich.

When I was a kid my folks would take me to this place called the "Pink Kitchen".
A hole in the wall place in back of a place in back of a place, built out of, yeah, pink bricks.

Ok, so I just saw a recipe for a bacon wrapped grilled cheese sandwich (bread doesn't burn before cheese melts plus it has bacon) and I may have a new addition to this list once I try it tomorrow.

Agreed, the classic Club Sandwich is tough to beat. When made right it really does have the perfect balance of ingredients!!! However too many Chefs overdo it and add all sorts of odd ingredients to a Club, like lobster and still call it a club sandwich :L disgraceful...

You just can't go wrong with that kind of Sandy...But I'd just be afraid the bacon would either cook before the sandwich is perfect or way after it is perfect...My advice(take it or leave it), cook the bacon until crisp then put into paper towels to drain the grease..Then slip it inside the grilled chesse(either oven or stovetop)At least to me, nothing like nice crisp bacon...
