Anyone know anything about computers? My work computer is acting up. The mouse went out on it, so I rebooted it and it was still not working. Plugged in a different mouse that worked at another computer and it still doesn't work. Tried plugging both mice into a different port and neither works. The original mouse is not working on any other computer, but no working mouse is working on mine. Any suggestions?
Worked as a equipment support tech at a semiconductor inc. for 5+ years. I may be able to help.

Is your mouse usb or PS/2? I'm assuming PS/2? If your PS/2 ports aren't working they are most likely damaged or they failed. Or if you are using a split adapter to connect both Mouse & Keyboard then that could have failed as well. Its sort of a common occurrence with older PCs for these to fail. If you have available USB ports I would try a USB mouse. They are much more reliable.

Also gotta ask. Have you had any motherboard BIOS issues lately? I've seen people disable devices on their mb on accident before. Also try updating the firmware on your BIOS. Which should probably be done, regardless. If your PC is older than 10 years then you should definitely look into this.

@femurov... worst case scenario your rear I/O panel on your motherboard has failed. If your PC has front I/O connections (USB) then try plugging a mouse into the front. But if that still doesn't work you may need a new motherboard would be needed. If your workplace will replace it for you on their dollar, then I would push for that even if the motherboard is fixable... :thumb:

If you want hardware recommendations then PM me.

put a new battery in as well

and was on the company's dime since it's their machine, I'm just the person that breaks it.

@FaCe-LeE-uS

Man all that shit flew over my head lol
Sorry... I'll simplify

USB/PS-2 - referring to the connectors at the end of the cord and PC. Male & female.
BIOS - Settings for your motherboard. You can optimize them to instruct your PC on how you want it to operate.
Rear I/O - referring to the ensemble of connections or ports at the back of the PC

Or do I need to boil this down to doohickeys & thingamajigs with pictures?

It is my work computer and I left around 3am last night. Apparently, they had an IT guy come out to look at it today. I'm off, so I will deal with it tomorrow. I appreciate the help, though.

I can read music.
Can't read computers.
If it doesn't do something I assume it's broken or corrupted.
If rebooting doesn't fix it, buy another one.

That usually means that he doesn't know what was broken, but he reset it several times and then threw it across the room and now it works.

Or today was my day off and they fixed it while I was gone.

Or. Click. Click. Hey it's magic. It now works again. Was it ever broken??
I guess that could be true. Maybe I just forgot how to use a mouse for a couple hours.

@Chef99

One of my most favorite Bundy moments has Bud and Kelly hunting fer food and Bud grabs the toaster and asks "More toaster shakins Kel?" Nice pick.
