Adrian Peterson is often labeled as the NFL's best running back, but the Eagles' LeSean McCoy said Monday he believes he deserves the nod instead of the Vikings star.

McCoy made his comments on ESPN's "First Take" when asked whether he believed he was the league's top back. He replied, "Yes, sir" and then expanded on why he feels that's the case.

"My brother always rips me all the time, trying to make me play harder. I say, 'I'm the best,' and he'll say, 'Did Adrian Peterson retire?' I look at the last three years and everything. I think AP has been the best back for so long, and he's been doing it for so long, that's why he automatically gets the best running back [title]," McCoy said.

"But the last three years? I've been All-Pro, first-team, twice. I never leave the field. I block. I catch. I never leave the field. I don't have anybody do my job; I do it myself. Tons of credit goes out to Adrian Peterson. I'm a big fan of his, for sure. But I feel I'm the best."

McCoy led the league in rushing last season with a career-best 1,607 yards, and he was first in rushing touchdowns in 2011 with 17. Peterson rushed for 1,266 yards last season but led the NFL in 2012 with 2,097 yards when he made a run at Eric Dickerson's league record of 2,105 despite suffering a devastating knee injury at the end of the 2011 season.

That's neat. I'll take Charles over McCoy at the moment though.

Plus with Peterson and Charles I don't have to worry about an ACL tear stopping them.

All pretty debatable though. It's pretty close. Lynch/Peterson/McCoy/Charles? I'd put them all in the discussion (although I think Lynch is 4th end of day).

Either way, Eagles had far better weapons to allow McCoy to do a little more. Most teams against Seattle just stacked 8 in the box non-stop. Hell the Broncos at some points had 11 guys playing up. Can't do that with Jackson on the field.

While I can agree with McCoy's thoughts. I will still take Charles over him for all around back. For the grind out yardage I will put Lynch in front. Teams tried to stop him to no avail.

Of three mentioned and AP, they all have their assets to be talked of as "the best". Just depends on style of team your with.

Agreed entirely. I would take Charles over McCoy but both are VERY close. If I was building a team and someone took Charles prior to my selection with McCoy still available I'd be like, "Eh whatever." But if both are available where I'm picking I'll take Charles.

He's definitely up there, I can't knock him for the confidence in himself.

AD is the best running back in the league and it's honestly not close IMO. I think the other names listed here are great but the position is running back and there is no scarier back in the league running the ball than AD.

Signed realistic homer...

If you have to tell people you are the best at something, you aren't.

AP took Ponder to the playoffs...that has to count for extra, right?

Pretty sure this right here is the argument to end all arguments when it comes to who is the best RB.
