I'm tired of the Stanton talk. I don't want the guy. It will take a shitload of good prospects to get him, and his production will not be enough to put the Phillies over the top. He was injured in 2013, saw his walk rate decline, average dip below .250, and a slugging percentage drop off of around 150 points. I know he was in a AA Marlins lineup, but the Phillies don't need to deplete the farm for this Hispanic Darin Ruf.

Seriously, in over 40 less games, Ruf only had 10 less home runs, and his batting average was just 2 points lower than Stanton's. Furthermore, the Marlins' GM explicitly said that Stanton isn't on the trade market. Marlins GM Dan Jennings says Giancarlo Stanton is not available on trade*market | SI Wire

His walk rate improved, plus Giancarlo sounds Italian.

I would forget about Stanton. We already have guys with high K%s plus he blows with runners on.

We need to get Nelson Cruz. Runners on .277; risp .289, LHP .285, RHP .262, avg 25 HRs last 5 years. He would be an expensive addition. The Phils have been losing too many 1 run games using lamers like Nix .200 and JMJ .220 who only know how to move the wind around the plate. With Howard's bad knees and poor LHP avg., Cruz could play RF and Ruf to 1B for 40 games or so.

It would also be insurance on potential injuries to Brown whose lanky physique seems injury prone. A good power hitter like the versatile Cruz is needed off the bench. By managing ABs from Brown, Ruf, and Howard, Sandberg could get 100 games from Cruz. Also Cruz never made more than 6 errors in one year so he's no worse than the current OF. Give him a 1 or 2 year contract. The increase in fan attendance would pay for it.

Signing Choo to a 3 year 75 million dollar deal would be a great signing, and is somewhat realistic, although more likely he will take the bigger years and money that he can surely get elsewhere.

You should not pay $75 million for a platoon outfielder. Especially in the Phillies case.

I say sign no big names. Don't do anything retarded. See what you have at the end of this season.

See what Asche and ruf does for a full season. Bring up Franco at some point. See how the pitching staff sorts out by the end of the year.

No matter what shitty signing the Phills can pull off this off season it isn't going to help enough to make a difference.

And you honestly think that if we signed him, he would sit against LHP?

Getting Cruz to replace Mayberry would increase fan attendance enough to give him 14 million dollars?

Who do we roll with if help isn't brought in externally for CF? I'd be fine with Hernández (actually happy) but realistically it will be Revere. And we'd be better off throwing big money at Choo than having Revere start, given that the number of years are kept in check. Choo definitely has his faults, but he is a high OBP guy with some power and speed who could lead off. Plus, Revere could bring back a decent haul since there's no use in having him ride the bench.

I don't care about errors. Cruz sucks in the field.

Why not? When they face lefties he can play golf with their $75 million platoon first baseman.

Cruz is so fucking overrated it's not even funny. The guy is a mess in the field, can't walk, and strikes out a ton. And this is all while juicing. If the biogenesis investigation didn't come out, he would be getting a 5 year deal. It's ridiculous how much importance GM's put on just home runs.

I wonder if he throws racial slurs at himself.

Alls I know is if he drives up in his lime green town car with a beer in his hand don't make fun of his rims, sound system or his hydraulics cause he's looking for a fight. And don't even think about saying something and running, 'cause he's fast enough to catch you.
