I love how you keep saying shit like "he is a butcher" and "he is a defensive burden"... Get off it... the tigers have much bigger problems... Nit picking Castellanos defense this much like its a major issue is comical.
Bigger problems don't erase his.

We all know the pitching was bad and still won't be great this year. Just as we all know he's bad in the field. Only I'm willing to acknowledge the reality of the situation.

Range at 3B matters even less when you have Jose Iglesias at SS. As you stated, the Tigers were in the top-third of the MLB in most team defensive rankings. It is not a weakness overall.
Only problem is Iggy has missed more time as a Tiger than he has played. And his range doesn't help to Nicks backhand side.

Giving up 193 HR in a season is epically bad... Shaving 20 Hr off that total probably wins them 3-5 more games... Getting even remotely close to the 125 or so they gave up from 2010-2014 easily gets them back into discussion of title contender. I don't see any way the Tigers don't take 20-30 HR off last years total just by replacing Simon with Pelfrey ( a ground ball pitcher) and getting Boyd and Farmer out of the rotation.

I remember plenty of Tigers fans that were calling for Peralta's head because of his "range". He was the starter in the NL all star game... and on the NL Central's champ.... Guess range matters a ton.
He has horrible range. But has great hands. Like Polly.

Actually it does.. It makes it so that he can stay closer to the bag.. If the ball is hit on the other side of the bag.. its not a hit....

Castellanos 12 errors were no where near bad for a full time 3rd base.. his fielding percentage also was not bad... It was actually better than guys like Beltre and Donaldson.

You obviously are not a fan of Castellanos.. I also remember you don't like Iglesias much either.. so you are basically going to poo poo anything they do. Iglesias only missed meaningful time after September and the season was over... He could have came back if needed.

He's a bad defensive third baseman. You said so yourself earlier.

No going back now.

He isn't a great defensive 3rd basemen... true.. but his hands are not the issue.. its range.. you keep saying he is a butcher and talking about his hands.. his fielding percentage was better than some of the best defensive players in the mlb at the position.

I actually like Nick.

Despite being a defensive burden.

Iggy makes little difference when he's on the DL. Not much to Poo Poo there.

You like him? Could have fooled me with the trashing him as a butcher and saying he should have been traded instead of developed.

You can't get an error on a ball you don't get to.

Ask Polanco. He set records because he's slow of foot.

Once again.. Iglesias missed almost all his time in Sept.. when the season was over and no reason to have him play. They rested him out of caution.. and to play machado.. not because he couldnt have come back.

Trading guys hAs little to do with liking them. It's aboot maximizing value and getting the team the pieces that are needed. (Sure, some players are Aholes and get dealt because of it. But that's not what I'm tallinbough at all here.)

If Nick didn't have value to other teams there'd be no sense in trading. But he does have value. (I haven't disagreed with you much on him as a hitter have I?). And has since he was drafted. That's not a bad thing.

Didn't he miss an entire season?

Or can we not go back all the way to last year? (They rested him because injuries are a concern already. Hard not to be when a guy has been on the DL more than he's active the last two years.)
