he looks awful...i dont care how much work hes putting in...buck has to look out for the other 24 on the team and either lower the guy or make him sit for a game or 2

I wouldn't start Flaherty every day, though... Doesn't this team still have the option of starting Pearce at 1B and giving the LF / DH spot not taken by Cruz to Lough (0.943 OPS in June) or Young (1.028 OPS in June)?

Delmon Young would be better at DH right now, give him more ABs.

My response to that statement would be "actually, Pearce is the better defender at 1B." (Pearce has a career UZR/150 of +8.2, vs. -2.4 for Davis... which unfortunately means that Davis is "statistically dominated" during a hitting slump.)

[Side note: Just looked at the FanGraphs page for Davis again... and "ouch" is all I can say. -0.1 WAR? That means Davis' current performance is arguably comparable to a Triple-A call-up. That being said, I've also noticed the unusually low BABIP of 0.255... which suggests that Davis might be simply "unlucky" this season so far. If that's the case, he should rebound sooner or later.]

As hot as Pearce is hitting right now, he needs to be in the lineup regardless of who's on the mound. As long as Pearce and Delmon are hitting the ball, they can leave Davis on the bench.

I think part of Davis' problem is Cruz. He sees Cruz hitting dingers with ease and it is killing him because it was Davis hitting those dingers not long ago. Davis needs to just go on the DL for about 2 weeks so he can work on his timing. Let Pearce play first, and split LF w/ Lough and Young during that time.

i hate the but its somewhat the truth...they could be this generation of the bash brothers this yr...davis needs to not be in competition with his teammate...just focus on hitting the damn ball...hes liable to strike out 300 times

Outlandish statement of the day: Chris Davis is turning into Mark Reynolds in terms of being a "three true outcomes" hitter. :noidea:

(Read: Davis' strikeout rate is higher this year... but so is his walk rate. As for home runs... they're falling back to a more "normal-looking" number.)

No way will he approach the Adam Dunn/Mark Reynolds territory.

I do think he is pressing. I don't think Cruz has anything to do with it but do think him trying to repeat last years #'s to justify a huge extension is.

Your statement is technically true... because Davis isn't just approaching that territory. Instead, he is actually worse than Dunn and comparable to Reynolds right now (ouch). Here are their batting stats for 2014 so far:

Davis: 0.197 / 0.308 / 0.380 / 0.688
Dunn: 0.227 / 0.361 / 0.442 / 0.803
Reynolds: 0.205 / 0.304 / 0.391 / 0.696
