With the benefit of hindsight... perhaps the team should have sold high by trading him during the 2013-14 offseason?

[Obviously, I'm being sarcastic here... but as crazy as this might sound, Pearce is actually hitting better than Davis does right now vs. both RHP and LHP. So, one could actually make a case for benching Davis...]

And while we're on the topic of hitters who are in a slump... Cruz is hitting 0.222 / 0.280 / 0.384 / 0.664 in June so far. If Pearce isn't taking Davis' spot in the lineup, maybe he should replace Cruz for a few days instead? (Another option might be giving Young or Lough more playing time given their recent performance.)

A day off or 2 wouldnt hurt but cruz's .222 is still better than davis...cruz hasnt been the same they hit him in his hand...most of his hits and hrs r goin to right center and rightfield

Well, if injury is a concern, then sitting Cruz makes even more sense. My point was simply that you could make a case of benching both Davis and Cruz based on recent stats... but I would be surprised if Buck actually does that.

Hmmm.... is it going too far to conclude that (a) 2012 might be a fluke, and that (b) Buck might only be an average manager at best (although still an improvement over his predecessors during the Peter Angelos era)?

Well i dont believe 2012 was a fluke with the talent we have that is proven mlb quality...buck maybe an average manager, while an upgrade over our past managers...bucks loyalty to players has allowed them to get complacent...and that happens when u know ur in the lineup everyday with or without performing...davis should be hitting 8th or 9th right now...even behind caleb and hundley theyre actually hitting better...while he didnt mind dropping manny and see what he has done, but look what he continues to do with gausman...but didnt do to tillman or jiminez
