I should have said, "a very specific scheme that most teams would not use" lol.

I agree, you can find other guys that fit that scheme but in the end...where is it getting you? At some point, in today's league you will need to throw the ball. You aren't beating Mahomes, Burrow and Allen with this type of scheme imo. Lamar is probably the best runner of all-time at the QB position so maybe they get someone similar but is better at throwing the ball. I think Huntley did pretty good for being a nobody.

Idk.

If Lamar was healthy there’s a very real chance they make the sb

They were a contender for sure

Is it sustainable?

Less sure

...My point of view is that, if your game revolves around running the ball, then why not find younger players capable of the same thing... I mean, didn't Huntley prove that you can plug & play Lamar's skillset into that Baltimore offense? I know it wasn't exactly the same, but you catch my drift. He did make the pro bowl, right?...
Hmmm. His stats say his play wasn't starter level, (5.9 yards per pass attempt, 3.2 yards per rush), but I don't think anyone else was willing to go to the Touch Tag Bowl.

Shouldn't be surprising

He's very stupid on a literal level. Possibly 7th grade reading at best

And he's not a good thrower..

But yea...he's fast let's give him 250 mil

Huntley wasn't very good. He made the pro-bowl because 42 other QB's declined, including 3 from this upcoming draft....

Is it sustainable? He already missed 9 regular seasons and a playoff game in the last two seasons and he wasn't seriously injured. Now it is fair question his durability and leadership.
I think it's already been shown...running QB's are not sustainable. You'll get 4 or 5 good years out of them because their legs hold up. Once the legs go, the fall is drastic.

When you consider the length of contracts and the amount of money tied up in the QB position....it's just hard to fathom teams paying guaranteed money over the life of a 5-6-7 year deal to a guy you know is more than likely going to blow a tire and never be the same because he can't throw the ball.

Some of the games missed, (in 2 separate time periods), were due to covid19, and/or NFL covid19 regulations for players who weren't vaccinated, rather than injuries. Hopefully this won't deflect the conversation towards covid19.

This year Huntley wasn't as effective. But last year when he vaulted his name to relevancy he looked like a mirror image of Lamar Jackson. Small sample size but still.

Agree that nobody else wanted to go to the pro bowl this year. Huntley making it just proves how much of a joke that game has become

The Ravens just got this one right. It's really that simple. Maybe not fair but it's the right move and teams obviously see that Lamar is too much of a risk with no sure reward.

I have no evidence that team could make the SB. Just bc they played well with Huntley doesn't mean they are beating the top contenders. Lamar is a one trick pony when it comes to the playoffs. Slight chance? Sure, I don't think it was that realistic though

Lamar scored a 13 on the wonderlic. Just a dumb human being.
You can write your name on that thing and gets you to double digits. I was playing around one time and I got like a 27 or 28. 13 is shocking.

I don’t know. I’ve long believed that the NFL owners have practiced collusion for years. It’s really fishy to me that in only 2 hours time you had 4 or 5 franchises come out and say they aren’t considering Lamar Jackson. If that’s legit it’s complete malpractice. It’s the job of the front office to improve the team. Not sure how you can do your due diligence in that amount of time. Look at what the Seahawks got for a lesser QB in Russ. Lamar Jackson costs half of that draft capital and is entering the prime of his career at 26. Say what you want about Lamar but he’s never looked as poor as Wilson has looked the last two seasons.

Huntley put up worse numbers and has a losing record with the same team, but the Ravens should stick with him over Lamar because.....

Did anybody not see he single handedly lost the playoff game this past season???

No different if he were a F/A...

And as we've seen with the Watson deal - you can absolutely make it work in year 1 or 2, and get the figures in easily under the cap.

It's fair to both sides.
Completely different from if he was a free agent.
1. Two First round picks.
2. He's negotiating for himself with no agent. Means it's personal not business.
3. Two years they've been trying to get him resigned and no deal was done, so it's not gonna be a simple negotiation.
4. If you put in all that time and effort to sign him to a contract and already decided to give up your 2 first round picks. Then Baltimore swoops in and just says thanks for figuring out a contract for me.
5. Even if you sign him, most teams would have to rework their whole offense. He's not a pocket passer.
