Yoenis Cespedes, a native to Cuba, is ready to take his chances in the major leagues; and both the White Sox and the Cubs have expressed interest in the young outfielder, according to ESPN.com.

Cespedes, 26, is known for his batting. In his 2009 World Baseball Classic debut, with Cuba, he had a double, three triples, and two home runs in six games according to baseballreference.com. He also led the team in slugging, and was second in batting average. Cuba lost their WB Classic game to Japan.

In his 2010-2011 season is where he caught the scouts eyes. He had 89 runs scored, 99 RBI’s and 33 home runs in 90 games. He led the league in runs, was tied for the lead in home runs, and broke a Cuban home run record by one. After his 2011 season he left Cuba and headed towards the Dominican Republic, and hired agent Adam Katz which immediately made him a target free agent in the MLB. The Cubs and Sox are both expressing interest in Cespedes.

With Alex Rios only batting .227 with 13 home runs it is no doubt the Sox will be going after a new outfielder that has such great potential. The Sox finished 79-83 last year, and after losing some big name players, they will need to figure out a way to not suffer another season under .500.

With Reed Johnson only signing a 1yr contract, and Marlon Byrd only having a year left on his contract, Cespedes is even more valuable to the Cubs. Cespedes is a young player and seems to fit in perfect with Theo Epstiens plans to turn the team around.

The Giants were one of the teams that were reported to have some serious interest in him at the beginning of FA, along with the Mets and Tigers. I don't know if that still holds true, just adding to the intrigue.

It pains me that the Mets won't bring this guy back. Now I know how small market teams feel, very frustrating.
