If I am a Chicago Cubs fan, I almost root for an epic curse type play that costs them the world series then to win the world series. Why? Because the curse and the 100+ years of suffering, the loveable loser moniker, is what makes Cubs fans Cubs fans. It's what makes Chicago Cubs so great. It's what has made this post season and current World Series so great. Everyone is tuning in because of the potential end to pro sports longest championship drought filled with historic mishaps and losing.

Cubs win the world series and that is all over. The next time they go to the World Series bars are not going to be selling out standing room only events at 7:30 AM before a game. They become a mainstay in the elite of baseball and the curse and their longtime suffering is over. No more need for the sports broadcast to pan Wrigley field looking for the elderly fan who has been waiting their lifetime to see the Cubs win the world series.

Cubs win the world series and they lose a piece of history, they lose a piece of themselves that has made them so great.

So cheer up Cubs fans if you don't make a miracle come back being down 3-1 in this world series. This series loss just adds to your amazing track of being a baseball fan.

Yeah, I don't think Cubs fans give a shit about shedding that part of their history or never having to pay $250 cover charges to watch baseball and have some beers.

These are all reasons why NON-Cubs fans should root against the Cubs. Not Cubs fans should root for a loss.

No matter. As all Cleveland fans know, once a series goes 3-1, it is over.

These Cubs are young, they will be back most certainly and at least making pushes for WS's in the foreseeable future.

They win and they become the Boston Red Sox.

Yeah. We all read that same article about the Red Sox more than s decade ago. If you're going to crib, do try to be more clever

You act like thats a bad thing.

Annoying for the rest of us? Yes.

But the Red Sox unquestionably have one of the best fan bases in baseball. Not sure why the Cubs wouldn't strive for that.

.
How awful it would be to get to celebrate 3 WS titles in less than a decade...

I'd like to see them win this series but if they lose I expect to see them do a few tweaks to their roster and come back better next year.

but your cubs jeering jersey has yet another wash cycle of stories to tell.

There will be tweaks, of course. But how could they improve that roster, in a real way?

Shut down rotation? Check
Shut down bullpen? Check
Shut down closer? Check
Solid defense? Check
Elite offense? Check
Strong bench? Check

What needs to be tweaked? The offense just got cold (shut down?) at the worst possible time.

Not many tweaks needed, just getting a little older for a young talented roster.

It's a lot like watching Oregon, back when they were relevant. Nobody wanted them to win, just participate.

All this talk of the Cubs being better off losing and keeping some "identity" for the media to play off of is complete and utter nonsense. They want to win and they will win at some point because they are loaded with talent and have a good front office in place. Winning is always good for a city and a fan base. This "upside to losing" crap needs to just stop already. This is the kind of stupid commentary I would expect from idiots like Skip Bayless.

As I've said numerous times, I hope the Cubs don't win it all until the last fan that made Steve Bartman's life a living hell dies. None of those scumbags deserve to celebrate a World Series. And Moises Alou is a piece of shit too. Not like he would have caught the ball anyways.

Yeah, i don't like the way Bartman was treated either but people do stupid shit. You could say the same thing about a lot of folks in Boston and Bill Buckner until they won it. It's sad but people get way too emotional about sports. You have to keep some perspective on these things.

It just a coincidence that every team that has played the Indians in the postseason just got cold offensively

Maybe I just flat out don't like the Cubs.

Hate to tell em, but they missed a season due to the Chicago Fire, so that makes the Braves the longest continually running franchise in the Majors.

Not a coincidence. Cleveland pitching has just been great. As has always been the story, great pitching beats great hitting. Cleveland hasn't made many mistakes either.

I'm sure Boston and Milwaukee are proud.

And aren't the Reds the winners of that participation award?
