Actually I think Roger Miller originally sang the song, Kristofferson didn't record a version of it until after Janis had died. Others also recorded it about the same time.

What pisses me of is Blue Oyster Cult always played "Born to Be Wild" in concert but never made a studio recording of it. There is a live version of it on "On Your Feet or On Your Knees" that is pretty damn good.

Once in the early 80's while in college I saw BOC do a cover of The Dickies song, Gigantor....and The Dickies who were the opening band that night covered BOC's Transmaniacon MC.
