I like both fighters, but I kinda hope Cotto wins.
If Cotto loses I think it will be his last meaningful fight. Canelo could absorb a loss at this stage of his career.

I agree. I got Cotto in a split decision victory with both guys getting knocked out once

if Cotto wins it is already known he will avoid GGG, however if Canelo wins, he has mentioned wanting to fight GGG.

It's hard to get the image of Canelo getting straight up dominated by Mayweather out of my head. I remember watching that fight and saying he was just too young, wasn't a good enough boxer, and didn't know any of the "tricks". Obviously Mayweather was the best in the world at what he did, and not many have as much experience in big time fights and understand and use those tricks. But Cotto is one of the closest. And Canelo hasn't had much time to grow up. If he was 28 ish for this fight I don't think there would be any doubt. But he's just still so young...

I still think he pulls it off and wins. But I also think it's a close fight for him ultimately decided by his power, or a runaway for Cotto.

Either way I kinda doubt the winner fights GGG. At least not within the year. (Although a Cinco de Mayo fight with the winner vs GGG would make Mayweather type money imo) looking around, Golden Boy Promotions kind of shriveled up and died recently. Canelo is the biggest name Mexican fighter currently, so he'll remain a name even if he ducks Triple G. If he loses though? Oscar De La Hoya may be left with almost nothing. I just don't think he let's the fight happen, even if Canelo was 110% willing to fight GGG.

Canelo lost to Mayweather, yes. But he has not lost to any boxer who stands in front of him. If Cotto does not stay on the move then he will lose, decidedly.

Outside of Mayweather beating Canelo this is w/o question the best opponent to date that Canelo would have fought. If Cotto was 5 yrs younger He'd win this fight, now I don't think so. I'm still waiting for the great win for Canelo vs a relevant fighter. He needs to fight and hopefully beat GGG. I'm pulling for him.

I agree that it was closer than it was scored but the first half was a toss up for the most part. Canelo was nailing him with power shots to the body for the whole fight. Canelo took control of the 2nd half because Cotto couldn't keep his pace up, and you saw how he was dominated every time he tried to stand in front of Canelo.

Cotto simply isn't big enough to fight guys like Canelo or GGG. He'd destroy anyone close to his size not named Pacquiao.

Canelo did a pretty good job avoiding blows for someone with "horrible head movement" or at least a few dopes say.

Canelo would get bopped by GGG which is why he probably would delay the fight. Regardless of what he just stated after his recent victory against Cotto.
