that's fine. That's their twisted perogative. But they should be given the chance to.

They have that chance. It's the HOF's rule that keeps banned players out. They could change it if they wanted to, but I certainly hope they don't.

Plus, the HOF added that rule after Rose was banned. Basically, they didn't want any part of his shit storm and basically washed their hands of him.

If he initially owned up to it he probably would be in the Hall today.

This.
And stayed away from gambling. The guy was a great player but he sure is an idiot.

I don't think it's pure stupidity as much as it is extreme narcissism. Pete's certainly not the brightest cat in history but I don't think that's the driving factor here.

He has been thumbing his nose at baseball ever since he was banned.

That's OK, though. He can do that. But he has to realize that that attitude has consequences.

Gambling is fine as long as it wasn't on baseball and his games in general. I mean he was still an adult who was old enough to gamble. Just did it the wrong way. So I guess you can say he is an "idiot" for that.

It probably would have helped his case if he had stayed away from all gambling completely though is my point, but instead he chose to half ass everything and hope they would let him back in.

Anyone else would be trying to think of ways to make things better to help their case, Pete keeps on doing the same exact thing he was banned for and expects to be let back in. Are we supposed to believe that he would stop betting on baseball if he was reinstated? No because he's a proven liar.

Could somebody please explain to me what all he did? I'm not sure if I've gotten the full picture. My little brother asked me about this while I was watching Sportscenter, and I don't fully understand what happened. I told my brother that he gambled back in the 70's and now he can't get into the Hall of Fame or be associated in any way with Major League Baseball. His response was "All of that for just gambling?" I agree with him, but I admittedly have little knowledge of the situation. Can someone explain why gambling resulted in a life sentence?
