we had no choice. BS was going to the highest bidder. We made QB a priority. We have no choice but to let Payne walk. The money is too great. We have many holes to fill and we drafted a 2nd round replacement.
BS we had 2 yrs of "choices " dean . we certainly do have a choice to resign him for allen money . i have pointed out for 3 years that we can retain our d/line if we want too

He let turner and norwell walk when they were pro bowlers. How do you think that turned out?
Damn, I didn't know that. I do think we did everything we could to bring Scherff back.

It is stuff like this that drives me nuts about the Rivera regime.
If what he is saying is true, why did they use their first pick on a wr, draft a pass catching TE, and then trade for a gun slinging pass happy qb? Are they changing strategies or is this a lie?

im saying this offseason. BS was gone and everyone knew it. He wanted top money, and he got it. To tie up that money in 2 DT;s is unheard of in today's nfl. Plus, we have to sign Sweat. The drafting of Mathis should have been the writing on the wall.

what you are saying doesnt mean squat , it was mishandled i have shown with the new CBA that we can sign all of our d/lineman and in the case of allen he came in under projection . so far mathis has been in the hot tub

Payne is going to want to be the highest paid especially after the year he had. Friendly bet, that he does not come back. Deal?

Can we get an actual GM in here before things get worse?

Seriously, no more pretend GMs...I want an actual GM who knows what they are doing for once. Some posters have indicated they are feeling good about the offseason but have no clue what Rivera is going to do. He weakened the OLine last year...what is next? None of us know.

What I do know is that I cannot trust him to improve this team and find a QB. That much I feel confident in.

I do worry about him finding a qb, cause he’s never had one. Hence his win/loss record. Maybe that means he’s due. :noidea:

The Commanders’ 2nd round pick, Phil Mathis (also from Alabama) injured his knee in the opening game of his rookie season last year, so he is probably going to be rehabbing during training camp, but may be ready to play by October if not sooner.

Washington basically got a “free” 5th round pick when the Cowboys waived John Ridgeway earlier this season, probably expecting to re-sign him to their practice squad. Instead, the Commanders grabbed him off of the waiver wire and he contributed a lot, playing more than 350 defensive snaps in 15 games for Washington in 2022. He tore his pec while facing his former team, but should be ready to practice in a few months.

Potential cap casualties:

  • Charles Leno (cap savings = $8m)
  • Chase Roullier (cap savings = $7.77m)
Washington’s only truly talented offensive lineman, starting center Chase Roullier, missed 16 games in 2022 after missing 9 games in 2021. He has played in only one regular season game since Halloween of 2021. At $12.8m, he has the 4th highest 2023 cap hit on the roster behind Wentz, Allen and Curtis Samuel.

Tight end

Potential cap casualty:

  • Logan Thomas (cap savings = $5.25m)

Quarterback

Potential cap casualty:

  • Carson Wentz (cap savings = $26.18m)
Carson Wentz is under contract through 2024, but let’s all acknowledge that the Washington coaching staff can’t bring him back. Also, releasing him will save the team $26m in cap space in 2023 and a further $27m in 2024. He’s done like dinner.

Maybe you should try out for the team rowdy?

Tell them you can throw a football over them mountains and that you all would have won state if coach would have put you in!

When you make the team, you have to get the board tickets to the game man!

Does anyone think the team is close to or has been sold?

Seems we get info in bulk then nothing.
Bezos was supposed to submit his bid in January allegedly.

With any luck, the sale will be announced in the next few weeks. Apparently round 1 is over. I haven't heard anything for a few weeks.

If it isn’t submitted and accepted by the end of the month then it won’t happen quickly enough

On Rivera essentially saying the shooting of Brian Robinson derailed the plan and hindered first half of the season.

1) WSH beat a superior DAL team by 20 points without Robinson this weekend. Cowboys had starters in and needed game.

2) One injury to a RB can't ruin a season.
