Are they still planning on building a new arena in downtown Ottawa? It certainly looks like people are tired of driving all the way to Glendale, er Kanata (attendance was 13,430 last night).

I know Ottawa is trying to get the Amazon HQ2. Giving the company LeBreton Flats instead of Melnyk could be the reason negotiations slowed since Melnyk's group was named the "preferred developer" by the NCC last year, although the province already said they won't be offering Amazon any tax breaks should they decide to locate HQ2 in either the GTA or Ottawa.

There are $14 tickets for sale on Stubhub for Sens-Devils tomorrow night.

A bit more pricier for Saturday's game though considering the team owner generally tries to ban away fans from attending

Given how much noise there’s been the past few days and that Melnyk’s been awful quiet about it (as opposed to his usual response to controversy which is to assemble a paramilitary force to investigate) I’m thinking he’s trying to sell the team.

Could mean a lot of different things – he may be bearish on the prospects of Lebreton Flats succeeding, he may be bullish on it and wants to sell the team with a new arena plan in place so he doesn’t have to (or rather can’t afford to) pay for it, he may be on the verge of not being able to finance the team anymore, etc.

He's a liar so he can say whatever he wants. The team actually makes money but he loses because of how leveraged he is and how much he diverts to other businesses. I think he knows he's lost the goodwill of the fans and citizens of Ottawa and will look to cash in within the next 2 years.

A new owner with concrete plans for a downtown arena is what the franchise needs so hopefully this drunken lunatic knows that his time has come and gone and doesn't do too much damage to the team on his way out the door.

just heard in the cesspool that theres a Drew Doughty interview on the athletic where he says he and Karlsson plan on comparing notes/salary proposals as they move towards UFA status

Doughty also said they will be asking for (and deserve) more than PK

Better get the bulk of that money in bonuses Drew because we all know there will be another season lost to a lockout once the current CBA expires.

Needs, yes. That’s a lot of money to take on though, both for the franchise and then for the new arena.

I don’t doubt for a second both are looking for $10m+, and I don’t doubt they’ll both get it.

It’ll be very interesting to see it all play out. Karlsson’s better but at some point these injuries have to start coming back to haunt him a little. That’s a risky contract for whoever signs him to it. Doughty isn’t the better player but he is durable as hell (and of course, everybody gargles his nuts).

Dream on, dream on.

PK >>> Doughty because PK will play in Toronto.

/yeah, that quote still pisses me off

The collective seizure Habs fans would have if PK ever wound up in Toronto alone would be worth it.

Time for Daniel A to pull him aside and have a chat with him.

now that you mention that ... maybe Karlsson knows something different about why Alfie is no longer with the Sens front office

He knows what everybody else knows; Melnyk is a piece of shit. Alfie couldn't stand working with the guy anymore.
