1) They don't want to make any more big $$ investments this year?

2) They are taking the moral high road when it comes to confirmed cheaters?

While I would hope it would be reason one, logic tells me it has to be much closer to # two.

Sox already have Victorino in RF, Bradley Jr. in center and Gomes/Nava in LF anyway.

Over which, power wise on any of them, Cruz would be a HUGE immprovement over. Still, no real urgent reason to go out and spend, as Boston already has enough power on its lineup now to do the job.

They don't want and or need him. They probably were banking on him possibly getting suspended so not worth the risk money wise if in fact he got suspended and they already have enough players in the outfield.

With Balfour out, will the artist formerly known as K-Rod be in?

According to several reports the Orioles have targeted Fernando Rodney as their top closer choice now that their deal with Grant Balfour has fallen apart, but they also need a fallback option to Rodney too.
Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun suggests that it might be Francisco Rodriguez, writing that the Orioles “recently reached out to Rodriguez’s camp to see if he’d at least be willing to consider a return with the closer situation undefined.”
Baltimore acquired Rodriguez from Milwaukee in July, but used him in a middle relief role and manager Buck Showalter rarely put him into anything resembling a high-leverage situation. He pitched well overall with a 2.70 ERA and 54/14 K/BB ratio in 47 innings.

FINALLY a KRod sighting...geesh.
