I cannot believe the Leafs are giving this guy $3.3m. Even if it is only for one year.

The only person besides the Leafs that feel he is worth that is Cody's Mom

I think he is top five in defencemen points the past 3 years (or something like that). It's fair.

Anyway, still expect him to be dealt.

For one year it's not bad, but it's obvious he's not going to be there long term

I hope you are right about the trade. I keep reading about the Leafs depth in Dman prospects. If there is any truth in that, lets find out!

Not sure I get the points reference though:noidea:

The second Bore-ya. Not all that good a Franseason last year, after a rather touchy go'round - someone's thinking we'll see the opposite, now?

I was mistaken. But he has the most points of any Leaf d-man the past two seasons.

Not sure about a depth of defensive prospects. Finn and Percy are about all, along with Petter Granberg who is probably the closest to NHL-ready. They have much more talent up front on the farm.

As far as guys that will be able to play a "top 6" role in the NHL the only one that I see right now is Nylander. I may be forgetting someone. The Marlies probably have a lot of guys that can have decent NHL careers, but as guys near the bottom of the depth chart, not the top. Which makes it even more idiotic that the Leafs have tied up roster spots with one way deals last year (and beyond in some cases) for guys with 4th line upside.

Andreas Johnson is another guy, he had a very good season last year playing against men as a 19 year old and was the Swedish League Rookie of the Year.

Thanks for the info. Every time I read some BS out of the Star touting the defensive depth, I just

This seems strikingly similar to the Kyle Quincey bridge deal Ken Holland took so much crap for.

 There's a very, very large difference. :L

There is some positive stat that he ranks top 3 or 5 in the league for. I saw it on TSN last week, I just can't for the life of me remember what it was and can't find it. Dragon might know.

Either way, i'm not crying over $3.5 million for a year of Franson.
