What did Shefter say specifically? Chip quits and goes where? If he goes to another NFL team then we have to get compensation. I guess he wants to return to college, with so many options are there - LSU, Texas, USC, maybe others.
This is premature, but who would you have your eye on as a replacement? Adam Gase? Who else comes to mind?
97.5 now says that it was pure speculation, and there is nothing to substantiate that it is a hot rumor. Shefty just said that he thinks it is a possibility, which we all know could happen, but doubt Lurie or Chip would pull the plug just yet.
"Appearing on Sirius XM NFL Radio, ESPN's Adam Schefter said "momentum and signs seem to be piling up against a Chip Kelly return to Philadelphia."
Schefter added that the two sides are "sick of each other." The Eagles have greatly underachieved this year, compiling a listless 4-6 record while playing in arguably the league's worst division. Kelly's offense has been particularly disappointing as the Eagles have averaged just 22.9 points per game, well down from last year's 29.6. A host of college teams will be interested in Kelly if he becomes available this offseason."
Speculation as of right now, but I wouldn't be surprised with anything anymore.
Wow. I consider Adam Schefter more credible than most local guys, though not as credible as the Fox NFL reporter, Jay Glazer. It's probably true, put it that way.
In a different situation, with a stronger owner and GM, Kelly might have been a great hire. The problem is he had early success, got a big ego and wrested all the power in the organization--and messed it up.
Banner was a strong GM, just had rough edges, and really blew the Dawkins situation. If Jeffrey hires him back, he hopefully keep him on a leash, so he doesn't duplicate the bad moves.
