Phase 1 of the Celtics rebuild is complete. They got a round 1 for Doc, they got essentially four round 1's from the Nets. They acquired a new coach who at least looks like he has NBA pedigree, and they traded Barbosa for Crawford. The following article says it all

Boston Celtics Ripped off Brooklyn Nets with Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce Deal | Bleacher Report

Now we are entering Phase two. Current view as GM

Culture to be reaffirmed: Be a defensive minded ball club- starting well!
Solid and or Star potential positions: 1,2, and 4. They have Rondo, Bradley and Sully.
Serviceable;3 They have Bass and Green
Hopeless:5 They have no real center

Bench: a solid 1/2 guard in Crawford. C Lee could still have value.

In development: Kelly O, Paul P

Discardable w/o emotion: Wallace, Humphy(contract has value), Rainforest, Brooks

So, these are their assets:

1. $10M trade exception
2. Humphy expiring contract
3. 9 to 10 first round picks (over next 4 to 5 years)
4. Open to trade: Brooks, Humphy, Wallace, Rainforest, Bass, Green, Lee

The open season on NBA trades is coming real soon, this week perhaps.

Rumors taking off every day now with the club.

Danny Ainge must be having fun. He has plenty of assets, no excuses. He is waiting for a deal he cant refuse (see Nets deal as an example)

I think "discardable w/o emotion" became a moot point as soon as KG and Pierce were traded.

I see 2 huge approaches here, win in 2-3 years or a win in 5 years approach.

Win in 5 years:

Move anybody who is born before 1988. Rondo I am on the fence, he will be older but he is also a PG so his shelf life is longer, he has had injuries though and if the right price came along I would jump on it.

Next step is draft well and develop picking up some pieces along the way and this approach also should leave salary for a max contract or 2 thanks to the rookie contract and bird right rules.

Win in 2-3 years:

I would keep as many of my pieces as possible draft well and look to trade my '17 or '18 draft picks for groomed products.

No matter what you will need at least 2 stars to win a ring plus some very good defending role players and a solid center. Hopefully Olynyk is that Center which is the hardest piece to find.

Botslayer, nice post. I think you have it right, two basic directions. I think the second is where they will go. I cant see them even having the roster space to house all the draft picks (add a round 2 to each year and they have to find a place for three people each year).

I dont know what Kelly O is, is he a tall 4? a slim 5? just not sure what he is yet. He is talented.

I am anxious to see how well Rondo plays. If he starts clicking with Sullinger and Green, the three of them together may be enough to lure a bigtime FA over to our side. (Keeping my fingers crossed) Word.

Green and Bass NOT open to trade, IMO. Humphries (note the spelling) better than I expected so no hurry to trade him.

Priority 1 is letting the players we have get used to each other.

Priority 2, keep your cool during the inevitable bad streaks.

They need to resign Bradley at year end.

I think Green is a valuable asset but we can find wing scorers. It would have to be a special player in return, it may be that no easy deal like that exists.

what do yall think of Asik?

Rumors really taking off this week on trades. I don't want a 2014 pick right now relative to rondo. If they trade rondo for picks, lets wait till year end so we know what that pick is worth

I want Asik. Great defender and rim protector. A 10/11 type guy who I think would fit in well with this team when Rondo is back.

I'll gladly give up the Lee and Bass contracts for Asik. Giving up a top pick wont kill us either. Asik will be a nice piece.

Well, we owe Bass 6.9 and Lee 11.1 over two. So we take back Asik's 15 mill next season and give up a pick. I think Asik would definitely thrive with Rondo. Plus he would get along well with Faverani. Asik's contract is bloated though.

Asik, Sully, Green, Bradley, Rondo

Faver/O, Humphries, Wallace, Brooks, Crawford

Hmmmmmm.... Word.
