i like our chances when we get to the end of the month . we should have a rock solid bp .
Syndegaard has struggled, could be wearing down......I think the O's have a good shot today
Outlandish statement of the day: This team might better with Joseph as the starting catcher... from the standpoint of ERA.
"Wait... I thought that Catcher's ERA is a meaningless stat."
... okay, but what if we group the data points by individual pitchers? Let's see:
- Chen: 3.19 ERA / 1.17 WHIP / 0.732 OPS with Joseph catching;
3.98 ERA / 1.29 WHIP / 0.741 OPS with Wieters catching
- Gausman: 3.75 ERA / 1.25 WHIP / 0.707 OPS against with Joseph catching;
5.93 ERA / 1.42 WHIP / 0.806 OPS with Wieters catching
- Gonzalez: 3.26 ERA / 1.21 WHIP / 0.699 OPS with Joseph catching;
3.53 ERA / 1.25 WHIP / 0.727 OPS with Wieters catching
- Jimenez: 2.81 ERA / 1.24 WHIP / 0.660 OPS with Joseph catching;
7.14 ERA / 1.66 WHIP / 0.859 OPS with Wieters catching
- Norris: 4.79 ERA / 1.34 WHIP / 0.799 OPS with Joseph catching;
4.91 ERA / 1.48 WHIP / 0.817 OPS with Wieters catching
- Tillman: 3.94 ERA / 1.35 WHIP / 0.710 OPS with Joseph catching;
3.96 ERA / 1.29 WHIP / 0.740 OPS with Wieters catching
Conclusion: It seems that having Joseph behind the plate instead of Wieters is better for the performance of Orioles starters since 2014. Of course, whether this difference can be attributed to the catcher's game-calling and defense is debatable... but if there's a causal effect, it seems that the possibility of losing Wieters to free agency would be tolerable.
Hardy needs a DL stint. His bat is as dead as Flaherty's.
Honestly, I have no problem with them letting Weiters walk, good riddance. They probably won't be able to (or just won't) afford Chen, as he'll get grossly overpaid. But my gut says they resign Davis and Parra.
And again!! LOL, but this time it was Givens.And Ubaldo gives the run right back.
Flaherty's bat isn't dead, it's non-existent. What is he, 0 for his last 33?Hardy needs a DL stint. His bat is as dead as Flaherty's.
We could sign davis for third and bring up oh trey mancini for first. walker is also a good hitter at first maybe we need to see if either of them could play third ?
manny mo tells you it doesn't really matter what they have done in the past . brandon snyder is hitting maybe he could play 3rd ?I wouldn't mind eventually moving Machado to SS as long as his knees can handle that position... but I'd be less comfortable about moving Davis to 3B given his track record.
As for Walker and Mancini... looks like Walker has only played one game at 3B, while Mancini has never played 3B in the minors.
