This is the first time Saban has made a hire that makes zero sense.

Saban just wanted Fulmers number so he could call him at 2am, breathe heavy in the phone, then hang up.

It's the ultimate troll. Tennessee will be writing Lyle checks to coach and recruit against them.

He's just an analyst, so Tennessee is probably just writing checks for him to bring Saban his Little Debbies every day.

But, USC did do that with Lane Kiffin and their 52-6 ass whoopin.

So does Saban immediately call these high profile fired coaches or do they contact him?

Maybe it's his goal one day to have everyone on staff be a former head coach. why? Just because

Butch Jones is a very good recruiter, but Alabama clearly does not need help in that area.....however, other schools could use the recruiting help....

......specifically Michigan State......

and........Butch Jones is Michigan born & bred....

....Mark Dantonio is a good coach but is relatively weak at recruiting. It would seem that Michigan State could've used Butch Jones' recruiting skills.

The thing is, Jones is an offensive coach, and Michigan State lost two defensive coaches (Harlon Barnett and Mark Snyder) to Willie Taggart at Florida State over the past couple months. But still, MSU could use the help on offense too.

He can’t recruit for Alabama or at least on the road. There are NCAA regulations on who can and can’t go out on recruiting trips and UA isn’t going to send an analysis on the road. He can help with contacts, strategy and meet them when they come on campus but he can’t do the heavy lifting.

He's not a coach for Alabama, he's just an analyst. He'll probably stay on staff for a year and then some small school will hire him away, or he'll end up taking a position job with a school at worse.

I personally doubt he'll be let near recruiting after what happened with Kirby on his way out.

His presence alone will make Bama's culture softer.

How did no one in that organization say, "Hey Butch, a trashcan on the sideline is really bad optics"

I mean, i like the idea, but use some kind of animal cage or something. Wait, no, no...probably would get all the whale-savers up in arms if you went that route

Lyle isn't the first former FBS HC to seek a rehab assignment with Lucifer's Vessel. After destroying his marriage and career, Lane Kiffin did a stint with Saban and wound up with a HC gig at a G5 wannabe in a talent-rich state.

Almost half a dozen championships, 3 coach of the year awards and it looks like he regrets every life decision that has brought him to this very moment. :pound:
