Well one of our longest tenured players has now been cut saving the team a decent chunk of money.

As much as Colquitt had a very up and down career here I really appreciated especially his work in the playoffs last year. With our offense playing very below average most of the playoffs he was huge in the biggest moments. Wish him well.

And just so people understand it wasn't so much that the Broncos asked Colquitt to take a paycut. It was honestly the type of contract they offered. They wanted to make it a 3-year deal but have none of the contract guaranteed and the Average per year was closer to the bottom of all veteran punters instead of near the top. Pretty much sounds like the Broncos wanted him gone.

Sounds like Colquitt was willing to take a $1 million pay cut but Broncos wanted more.

Sorry to see him go. I think he was THE longest tenured Bronco, right? Good luck Britton!

That he was. That title now falls into the hands of one Demaryius Thomas.

Best of luck, Britton. Thanks for at least punting great in the playoffs!

One of my favorite things about Britton, after punting great all through the playoffs, he shanked his very last punt against the Panthers. Now at this point the there is less than a minute left, and Denver is up by 14 and there's no way the Panthers are going to come back, yet when he got to the sideline, Britton slammed his helmet down.

Here's a guy who did his job wonderfully throughout the playoffs, and now his team is about to win the Super Bowl, and he's pissed because his last punt only went 28 yards. In his other 7 punts in the Super Bowl, he averaged over 48 yards per punt.

Many thanks to Britain Colquitt for his service as the Bronco punter. He was always better than average and sometimes elite (especially at directional punting). His brothers were better - IMO.

Still - I'd shake his hand and ask for the autograph.

Best of luck Mr Colquitt .. I can recall being happy he was brought back after initially being let go ( which seems like a lifetime ago ) ... In that time, we won it all, and that;s all you can ask for

I'm also excited about Dixon

I think there is some good that can come when there is turnover in personnel after a Super Bowl victory -

I felt like Colquitt got crapped on by the fanbase more then he should have. I agree with this decision though.

So what will Dixon do in late November, 20 degrees/rain, punting out of his end zone Denver up by 2?

I think his problem is that half the time he would wow you with a great punt and then make you want to rage with a shitty one. And for awhile there it seemed like the shitty punts outweighed the great ones. He was helping his cause last year towards the end and in the playoffs but I think Denver was just tired of paying the guy when he couldn't stay consistent.

I would much rather have a guy who kicks it 45 yards every time instead of alternating between 55 and 30.

Yeah good way to put Colquitt.

He was about as inconsistent of a punter as you will find. We haven't had a lot of great punters since Mike Horan so to me it wasn't like the guy was a bad, but he was very inconsistent for sure.

Like you said. He'd have those incredible moments and those really head scratching moments.

Money wise he had to go. Dixon and he were pretty equal in PS performance IMO, it was time to move on. I think overall he was a decent punter, but Dixon was a cheaper/younger option.

I am excited to see what Dixon brings as time goes on.

I would rather say "thank you for helping us get that huge ring!!!" He was a huge part of why we are Super Bowl champs. Without some of his punting ability in the playoffs I'm not sure we win some of those close games. I mean his work especially in the Super Bowl with one of the best returners in the game on the other side was masterful. I never would have thought that the Broncos would end up being the team with a huge return that really sealed the game for our team.

This was a cost cutting move. I hope with this year's team and projected offensive struggles that this move does not come back to cost a a game due to a blocked punt or something bizarre in the punt game.

It's one thing to go with a rookie punter if you have a high powered offense but he plan this year is to call it / run it and punt if necessary.
