Titans and coach Mike Mularkey "mutually agreed to part ways."

The news comes from ESPN's Field Yates. It is a stunning development considering the Titans reportedly offered Mularkey an extension following their loss to the Patriots over the weekend. It is possible that extension came with caveats Mularkey would not accept, such as firing an offensive staff which underperformed in 2017. Whatever the reason, a prime job with a young and promising quarterback has suddenly opened, and that could spell trouble for the teams still looking for coaches. That is especially true for the Colts, who could watch their No. 1 candidate, Patriots OC Josh McDaniels, end up with a division rival.

McDaniels is my top choice right now too.

The guy who will take down BB.

I haven't been this optimistic about Tenn since about 2004.

That should be Mcdaniels first choice too

At this rate, my Giants are gonna end up hiring Rex Ryan or some shit

I'm hoping JM hires Rex as his DC.

Praying for it really.

That would be cool

Rex's D's have tended to give the Pats issues, and if MM is going to be a good QB, JM is one of the guys who can bring it out of him.

But Tenn really should've done this last year and snagged Shannahan to groom MM.

The Titans have offered coach Mike Mularkey a contract extension.

Not only has Mularkey been assured of returning in 2018, the Titans apparently now believe he's worth extending beyond that. It's an absurd decision based almost solely on Tennessee's Wild Card win over the Chiefs, caused mainly by Kansas City's own meltdown and fortunate events for Tennessee that occurred in a singular game, not a bang-up coaching job. By all accounts, GM Jon Robinson was ready to part ways with Mularkey following a massive step back by Tennessee's offense. It appears ownership stepped in to guarantee Mularkey's return.

Wrong. They parted ways about 30 minutes ago.

He was terrible in Denver, terrible in St Louis. A 2nd run with the Patriots somehow changes that?

Have you seen their history of coaches? It's abysmal.

I'm pumped to get Patricia in Detroit

I don't hold Mangini and Crennel's stints in Cleveland against the Pats. I also don't buy the insinuation that the coordinators learn nothing from BB.

The ex Pats coaches who failed never had QB's either. In Detroit, we just need a RB.

The ST coach stigma is real.

Main job of a head coach is to be a leader of men. Toub is exactly that. When a head coach is a former OC or DC, the teams are often unbalanced to that side of the ball. Hiring retreads usually results in mediocrity. HC Toub, OC John DeFillipo, DC Jerome Henderson sounds like a good, up and coming set of coaches for someone (although a more proven DC may make more sense with an unproven OC).

I think he's a better hire than McDumbass will be.
