It was a strike Joey, you gotta protect with 2 strikes

It was yesterday or the day before when I made a similar comment. I suspect, protecting the plate with 2 strikes is one of those "lost arts", at least to an extent.

Ain't this true with everyone? Seriously.

Gallo might not get it ever, right? This Odor may be the Odor we get for years, right?

To me that's a bit apples vs oranges.

Gallo has pretty stout expectations, and to be fair he has over 20 HR's before the ASG. Odor has a 30 HR season under his belt. They have shortcomings, there's no question. But they also have things they do/have done well.

What does Perez do well?

s Perez do well?

He'a averaging about 6 innings per outing. Think that's right.

And he's a lefty, and only 26. Has nothing to do with your question, but points none-the-less perhaps.

But these two years may end of being the best years that either one of these guys ever have. It happens.

Not hoping/wishing or predicting.

I guess Newberg summed it up best for me... at this stage in his career, you'd like to see Perez have taken another step forward, and he hasn't.

Will he? You're right, he could. I think they were waiting for Holland to, and he never did. But at least with Holland, he's shown some flashes of brilliance. I've been looking at the career numbers, and Holland's look better.

Whoa...whoa......the sky has fallen just yet on him.
Yeah I know I'm being a dark cloud. I'm still stinging from how Ross, Scheppers, Feliz and Ogando were handled and what happened to them.

Gotta say....I'd leave Ross outta any equation on "what could they have been" really. Maybe just me. ha

But your overall point of contention is right on.

THE guy I think we really messed up on was Ogando. Primarily b/c his wind-up/release/body tork, etc was so violent. No way he can go out there do give ya innings....But boy-oh-boy, did he have some nasties or what?

To be fair, one trick pony is the way baseball is headed.

There is very little offense in baseball outside of homers. The HRs are the only thing saving offense from this pitcher/strikeout revolution.

The two strike protect the plate is a staple at the earliest youth leagues. I actually had three kids in 12U who could run up a 7 pitch count when down early in the count.

Agreed. Love it, did it, loved it, believe in it. One of those "building blocks of your game" as a young person.

However, seems like somewhat of a lost "principal/rule" to me.

And I hate it......Just another old fart-ism I suppose. ha

Yes Ogando was a great set up man...then we made him a starter and ruined him. If big if we kept him a reliever he might have spent a couple of years closing for us. Same with Feliz.

When TTAB now has a youth league pitch count the longer at bats can be decisive in a game. For 12U if a pitcher throws more than 30 pitches in one inning they are done for the day. I put those three kids at the top of the order and ran three starters out of the game in the first inning. :-)

No arguments here sir.

Feliz actually rebounded, at least somewhat, and went on to pitch for several years. He's probably done now though....Honestly, always liked this guy. Seemed like a good egg. One of those "make no waves" just give 100% kind of guys.
