Decent hire, but most of his connections are in the East Coast. He could have trouble recruiting out West. Either way, it's probably an upgrade over Herb.

A couple NIT appearances should get him a raise and extension in a few years.

He offers 3/4 things:

Winning attitude and Passion
Championship experience
Basketball IQ
Comes in Hungry to prove a point

and Sting, he kept his asst so some recruiting ties still present. He just needs to capture the AZ and CA market. His Dads background and East Coast ties will only help.

Heard this. Good for Sparky, I think it'll definitely help. He's young, has a name, and an exciting style. It'll be interesting to see what he will do.

Miller didn't have any west connections before he got to AZ, so I don't know if that'll be as much of a challenge as just having to compete for recruits against Miller, Alford, etc.

He might surprise with who he gets to spend their winters in Tempe.

I have a feeling this job will just be a stepping stone for him, as soon as he has a good year there he'll bolt for something bigger. I say 3 years max.

I am ok with that. Let him prove himself for the next big name coach to fit in.

Like I said (not sure where), if Hurley can just get the program back into an assent, then good. If he bounces, then maybe he does well enough to entice the next one who sees potential and decides to stay. Or, if he can pull them out of the spiral and hits his ceiling (like Romar) then ASU would be good to move to the next tier, instead of keeping him around until he sucks and brings the program back down (like Sendek).

Hurley just might end up being the next "note worthy" coach who will be able to completely turn a program around. I think it was a great hire.

I don't see him sticking around too long if he has success, but I still think this was a good hire for ASU

They have a DOOKIE as their coach.

who wants to place a bet with me that Bobby does better than Herb? i mean Herb rode the coat tails of James Harden. Bobby Hurley probably be in the top 3 best winning % coaches in ASU History. Ned Wulk, Bobby Hurley.....so on. Eat your heart of Tucson.FB_IMG_1429141491748.jpg

Weird considering we fill your arena every time we play you and you get like 3K people per home game… :dhd:

The Herb had a .538 winning % with .442 % in the Pac. I honestly hope BH does better than 16-15 (8-10). But the bar is pretty high!

Exactly, how is it a maroon and gold state when it's not even a maroon and gold arena???
