So OU has already beaten Tcu and has 1 less loss. Sooners are already conference champion due to round robin. Why are we playing this?

I think it was because the networks were going to put up a fight to pay 2 more teams to come into the conference the same amount as all the others, even though the contract stated just that. Instead, they pay some additional money to each of the 10 schools to do this retarded CCG and they save a ton of money, and the 10 schools are happy with a little more money each.

I could be wrong, but the way everything went down, it looks to be the case.

It's stupid. I understand them wanting a championship game but don't do this format. Simply add two more teams, make two divisions and then have a championship game. If everyone is already playing everyone else then a championship game is kind of stupid.

It's a sop to the way the CFP committee thinks and it's also a way to milk a few extra shekels out of the network for the conference to spend on God knows what. At the same time, if we didn't have this game, OU would be sweating out the possibility that other teams could blow the CFP's skirt up with big wins this Saturday and get us dropped to #5. At least we control our own destiny this way.

I don't think there is anyway Oklahoma wouldn't make it to the playoffs this year if they were simply 11-1 conference champs in the BIG XII. Championship games always backfire on the Big XII, when they need them they don't have them and when they don't need them they do have them, haha. I still like to see it though because I love championship saturday and it should be an extra quality game with a lot at stake.

If OU was in TCU's position, you'd be thrilled to have a chance to avenge your loss and claim a conference championship.

But as it stands, OU has very little to gain, and very much to lose.

This is basically it but it's not stupid at all. It's all about money.
I think everyone agrees that if OU and Texas are what they SHOULD be then this game is a rematch of the shootout about every year with one being undefeated and the other with 1 loss. It's set up for them and cashing in on them.

Winner goes to the playoff$ and could be some years where both finish with 1 loss and both go playoff$ ( the other schools don't have that kind of brand/tv ratings so that will never happen) and if it's a down year and the playoffs aren't going to happen then like you say, more money for the members from our ccg all the while keeping our full payouts from the tv contract instead of sharing it with expansion teams should we not get the playoff money that year.

It's all about money at the end of the day, not much else.

Has there been anymore talk of expansion lately? And if so, who would it be? They need a team or two closer to West Virginia so they're not on an island by themselves, haha.

No good expansion candidates.

The Big 12 is completely handicapped by not having a conference title game. The title game is keeping the league out. Why are we not playing it?

2017
The Big 12 is unfairly risking a playoff spot by having a title game. The title game is meaningless and only serves to hurt the league. Why are we playing it?

Didn't it also knock teams out when it had it between 1998-2010? Times when it would've made the title game by simply not playing the game.

The Big 12 Title game is a fucking curse.
Not once has it helped a team in the league.

Every other league has had its championship game push a team over the top, but not the Big 12.

6 times it only added a needless risk to an already guaranteed spot.
98 Nebraska, 00 Oklahoma, 03 Oklahoma**, 04 Oklahoma, 05 Texas, 09 Texas

4 times it kicked a team out of the national title game that was a shoo-in by upset losses.
1996 Nebraska, 98 Kansas State, 01 Texas, 07 Missouri

2 times without it, it kept teams out that would have gotten it with a title game

11 Oklahoma State, 14 Baylor/14 TCU

And this year, yet again.....

The entire league should be disbanded in order to rid the world of the curse

And on the other hand, who among us doesn't love another opportunity to see if Mike Stoops is going to stick his ass in the air and shout "come and get it!"?
