Some USC honk tried to tell me over the weekend that I lost all credibility for merely even suggesting that Urban Meyer was a better coach than Pete Carroll.

I had to laugh

That is true also. But Petersen did it at BSU, why would it be different for others?

Peterson was on the list in the OP about which I wrote that Sumlin "obviously hasn't accomplished as much" as those guys. I do think, however, that making A&M as competitive as it was in its first year in the SEC was quite remarkable. Perhaps the season that Missouri is having somewhat undermines that accomplishment. I know that I was surprised by both. I am obviously biased. Might be hard pressed to find many posters on the college football forum who are not.

He did a great job at Houston as well, but Keenum was a solid qb as well. Give him an average qb and we will see how things play out. His team has 0 defense. If their offense stalls once or twice, you have them beat.

To be fair great coaches rarely have average QB's because part of being a great coach is being a great recruiter...

If you saw the SNF game between the Texans and the Colts you saw his last "golden goose" playing QB pretty well. Also, it seems pretty naive to me to attribute all of A&M's success to its QB.

very true much of should be given to the prior coach that left 4 NFL offensive lineman for him in his first yr. 2 Tackles that were/will be top 10 picks. Give Sumlin credit, but way too early to put him in this camp.

I think what he was saying, is he got somewhat lucky with Keenum. Sumlin's recruiting is average at best. Only reason he really got manziel is bc Oregon didn't want him (Marriota)
come on. Sumlin has recruited very well at A&M. I happy to beat on him, but lets try to keep it close to the facts

I think A&M's defense is starting to turn the corner now, they played their best the last two games than they have all season long.

Ummm, no it hasn't. You played Vandy High and UTEP Jr High. LSU is about to skull fuck your defense to death in a couple of weeks.

I'm sure they will, just in time to intercept Mett 5 times in Death Valley haha. Wouldn't shock me if all of a sudden A&M turned it on in Baton Rouge.

Tressel unquestionably belongs over Stoops. The guy has 1 BCS win in the last decade and it's over arguably the worst team to ever play in a BCS game. He is remarkably overrated.

He played in 4 Bcs title games though. How many Bcs games has Ohio St. got rung up in? Stoops also has like 9 Big XII titles.

Tressel is 5-3 in BCS bowls I believe.

Easily one of the best coaches in the BCS era.

I have a hard time putting anyone on the list that put his program in jeopardy. I did chuckle when I saw Pete Carroll. He gave USC maybe their best 5 yrs and their worst 5 yrs.

Tressel played in 3. We got beaten by more than 14 one time. We all but beat Texas in 09 with a freshman QB running the show against a team all of Longhorn nation was touting as the team that should've been in the NCG game. Tressel had over twice as many BCS wins, and he never lost to a mid-major or a team from the Big LEast, either.

Why? We're not talking about most ethical coaches, we're talking about the best. Tressel's achievements on the field more than put him in the top 5.

I couldn't believe Tressel's name didn't show up until the second page. How soon we forget.

As a fan of TOSU, I will admit we have been damn lucky in hiring great coaches. I look around at programs like Tenn, USC and Florida and think "my God" we have been fortunate in finding the right guy for the job.

I'm sure it also helps that Ohio produces the best football coaches in the nation.

Ummm, no it hasn't. You played Vandy High and UTEP Jr High. LSU is about to skull fuck your defense to death in a couple of weeks.

You obviously haven't been paying attention, A&M gave up 31 points to Rice, 28 to SHSU, and 33 to Arky. Coming in to Vandy game only 1 player had more than 1 sack and the team had 7 TOTAL in 7 games, and only 12 takeaways. Then A&M had 9 sacks, and 7 takeaways combined, while lowering total yardage and points given up. Against Vandy A&M had 3 takeaways and 7 sacks 12 TFL, while giving up only 24 points after having 5 turnovers themselves. Against UTEP A&M had 4 takeaways, 2 sacks, 9 TFL, and a blocked punt for a safety, while holding UTEP to under 200 yards of offense.

So yes Vandy and UTEP are bad but A&M has clearly seen a great improvement from the defensive side of the ball. Will it make a huge difference against a good team probably not however it is ignorant to say that the defense has not improved and possibly turned the corner on the season.

Um no, it's all about championships and Stoops has more than anyone.

Switzer sums it up....
