Not surprised Big 10 and Big 12 are clearly the two best conferences this year. Big 10 may be a little better at the top, Big 12 may be a little deeper. Both great conferences this year.

I'd also say the ACC is a little better than the Big East this year.

They were extremely close in my rating system but the BE got the nod by virtue of having a slightly better record vs the top 100 overall and a substantially better record vs 101-200. The B10 and B12 were separated by .1 of a point. It was that close.

I think the Big12 is overrated. I think Big10 is definitely better.

Kansas is the only Big12 team I think is truly a threat.

I use the RPI sites to gather all the info and then do each team on its own and cross correlate it with their opponents to get records for all leagues. Its tough because games are going on and its tough to update but pretty cool. AND Ive won my March Madness pool 8 of the last 9 years so its worth it :) LOL

If you look at the top of each league ( ie the top 4 teams ) the B10 scores higher but overall the B12 scores slightly better. Like I said the 2 are separated by.1 point so if you wanted to say you favored the B10 Id certainly have no issue with that. Hell if I was forced to choose Id probably go B10 too even with all the data in place.

Yeah it's one of those that can go either way but since I both are going to have there fair share into the tourney I like to look at which batch of tourney caliber teams is better

And I see the Big10's top 6 as being quite a bit superior(to this point).

One of the most sure fire ways to pick teams to make deep runs are to look at 5 factors. First in my mind is offensive efficiency, some people favor defensive efficiency but in tourney play the game tends to open up more due to refs calling the game closer and pace of play picking up ( tourney games average almost 7 ppg more than regular season games combined over the last 10 years ). 9 of the last 10 champs have been top 20 in offensive efficiency. Defensive efficiency is second in my book, 8 of the last 10 champs have been top 20 in that stat. Rebounding is 3rd with a special emphasis on offensive rebounding as they create second and sometime 3rd chances, turnovers PER POSSESSION are 4th, simply looking at turnovers is skewed as a team that averages 55 possessions and 12 turnovers is actually worse at protecting the ball than a team that averages 73 possessions and turns it over 14 times, last is guard play. Every champion for as long as I can remember has had great guard play whether it be from a PG ( preferred ), a SG ( still OK) or the BEST is a SG that can take over the PG duties in the last 5-6 minutes and create shots for himself and his teammates. There are sites that track the first 4 metrics and if you cross comapare all teams in the top 20 you will typically find 4-6 teams that rank in the top 20 in all 4 categories. Those teams generally always make runs to at LEAST the elite 8. Then if you look at those teams guard you can typically pick your final 4 from that group.

Using my criteria there are 4 teams who rank in the top 20 in 3 of the 4 categories ( no team is top 20 in all 4 which explains why we dont have a "dominating" team in CBB this year IMO ). The 4 teams that rank in the top 20 in 3 of the 4 categories are Syracuse, Louisville, Iowa and OK State. Zona, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Creighton, Michigan State, Duke, Pitt and Iowa State rank in the top 20 in 2 of the 4 cateories. If you look at talented guard play Id tend to lean towards Zona, Michigan State, Iowa State and Kentucky as my other 4 so I guess right now my Elite 8 would be Cuse, Louisville, Iowa, OK State, Zona, ISU, MSU and Kentucky with a Final 4 of Cuse, OK State, Iowa and Louisville. Highest 2 ranked teams in the 3 categories are Iowa and Syracuse with Syracuse ranking highest overall. SO as of RIGHT NOW that would be the picks but all that is going to change Im sure by seasons end.
