Not sticking up for Pelini, but USC receivers caught everything that night. If it touched their fingers they pulled it in.

Pelini was also Co-DC under Venables.

I personally think Pelini's 'style' of defense has been passed by. He was taught by some greats in another age of football. He's not innovative enough to formulate an effective modern defense.

I have no idea what to think about Pelini's defensive mind now. If you look at his track record he had some stout defenses until 2010. Either A. He was always surrounded by talent and had the players to run the schemes, now he doesn't due to his ability to recruit or B. The games starting to pass him and he can't think of a more modern effective scheme as previously stated.

Anyone thinks Saban should be penalized for running recruits into the ground so they always seem to have injury issues when they get to the NFL or is this strictly a performance based list? Imo, thats the only real thing you can question about him. His track record does speak for itself
