Tonight the Rays play Boston and KC plays St. Louis, yet another opportunity staring us in the face with a depleted Oakland team on the agenda. I know we keep saying this, but we need to take advantage of a far less superior opponent. The WC spot is within reach, have to go out and play to their abilities and we get the two game sweep with a possible WC spot in the next day or so. Come on knuckleheads, go justify your paychecks please!!

After all the talk about Mike Zunino improving, he seems to have returned to his old self. He has 1 hit in his last 22 ABs. He has struck out 13 times in that period.

Yep. My first thought in June was to deal him and make someone believe he had changed before reality set in. Too late now.

Everyone thought he had improved a lot, I just thought he was on a hot streak getting lucky. The guy obviously has the power to launch balls out of the ballpark when he makes contact, he just doesn't make enough contact. Against the Royals I recall one AB where he literally swung and missed at 3 straight curveballs on the exact same location of the plate.

I'd love to know if there are any other players in baseball who have played 400+ games since 2013 who have a lower batting average than Zunino (.199). We might need to rename the Mendoza Line to the Zunino Line.

Hope he proves me wrong, but he has now had 432 games at the major league level and doesn't seem to be improving substantially aside from the occasional month like June when everyone thinks he has finally figured it out.

Catcher should be another offseason priority.

That was a sweaty month though

I still like Lucroy who is having a down year and a free agent to be. Maybe he will come a bit cheaper now. A down year for him is still better than a good year from K-Nino.

I mean if he can go back to anywhere close to his career norms then yea id take Lucroy, but just on this year, Id take Zunino.

I believe the term for that is masochism.

Kinda confused by the lineup.

Why would they want to bat Alonso 2nd? He doesn't exactly run well. He has a good OBP, but I'd rather have someone with a bit more speed at #2.

Have to agree. I like speed at 1 and 2 with bat control at 2.
