If the team goes ahead with cutting Peterson, Iupati, & Vehldeer, The team will have roughly $35m in space. And next season, before any 2018 FA signings & 2019 re-signings, they will have close to $70m in space after both Palmer's & Fitz's cap hits finally come off. If they do trade/release the honey badger, which I doubt, that free up another large chunk of space.

That means they have plenty of wiggle room to sign Cousins.

And then backfill all those holes created making room for one guy

would be better off on a 3 or 4 year deal for half the money for AJ. then use the money to make sure he has an OL and defense to help him win.

Peterson is not a hole. He is/was expendable. Iupati injured frequently. Valdheer lost the starting left tackle job to Humphries and has been a human turnstile at right tackle. He has flirted with retirement the last couple of years which usually means your heart is not in it anymore. His play has certainly suggested that.

If Honey Badger is traded or cut, that would be a hole, but he has had 2 torn ACL's and his play has dropped off. Budda Baker has stepped up big time and would fill that hole.

The biggest issue would be depth. Losing those players would cause depth issues, but if there is one thing Keim has been great at, it's building depth through free agency.

You never see durable, franchise QB's available at age 29. I have said from the beginning, they need to go after Cousins at whatever cost. That said, I still think he goes to the Vikings.

IMO - The Cards starting QB will be Teddy Bridgwater, Josh McCown or Sam Bradford. If that is the case, they better trade up to get a QB in the draft.

The roster spots will not be left open, so people have to be paid to be in them. Unless you get everyone on minimum salary, that just creates more payroll issues. You are giving up guys to make payroll room to offer one guy, then still need to pay the roster fillers.
