5 biggest developments in the first half of the Rangers' season, including Rougned Odor's overnight maturation

This about Odor from the article above:

It took a village of people - and perhaps a direct threat to his playing time and place on the major league roster - to reach Rougned Odor, but he’s looked like a changed man for the last month. Perhaps the final turning point was a benching for breaking curfew in Kansas City in mid-June.

It’s going to take longer to determine if this is just a “phase,” or if Odor matured overnight.

But since the benching, he hit .282/.371./.513./.884 over the final 22 games before the All-Star break. He’s bunted for hits. He has walked in eight percent of his at-bats (vs. five percent from the start of 2017 through mid-June). He has stolen four bases in five attempts.

Just as impressive: He has played exceptional defense for an even longer stretch. He has regularly worked early and purposefully with instructor Tony Beasley. It included a career-best 41-game errorless streak, the longest of his career. At the All-Star break, Odor has the fourth-best defensive WAR among all second baseman and the fifth-best defensive runs saved total, according to fangraphs.

Now, the Rangers wait for struggling Joey Gallo to have a similar moment of self-realization.
won't happen until the Rangers grow a pair and make a move that sends him a message

Yeah, I held off on that thought as I was not sure if the "wait" in that sentence was thrown in by the writer as that of course is way too passive of a plan of action. Odor put forth effort in trying to change the path he was going down. Have not heard that about Gallo which says all you need to know if it is the case.

Guy does not strike out much too. He should be in upper half of order

Calhoun and Heineman both are hitting over .300. I know some were saying that Calhoun needed to work on defense. While that may be true I haven't seen it be a problem in keeping them from using others with defensive deficiencies if they can hit.

Calhoun would probably be a good full time DH at least.

He was another reason why I think it would be so important to trade Choo besides getting rid of the contract.

Supposedly Machado is already traded and it might be to the dodgers.

I’d be interested to see the return because I still feel like the dodgers got the better of us on the Darvish deal.

LA might not agree. We will likely get more from Willie than they got from Yu.

I understand that he shit the bed in the World Series, but I was referring to when the trade was made.

And we still haven’t received any notable contributions from the prospects we received.

You refuse to let this rest.

Even with a WS gone sour and now Yu struggling in Chitown and big health issues. Probably best to rethink this

Well we still have our 3 guys. What do they have? Now Brendon Davis stinks right now at DE. He is 20 years old. AJ ALexy is pitching for Hickory. His ERA is in the 4's this year. His K9 and BB9 is 10.8 and 5.1. So control is his problem right now. He is 21. And then there is Calhoun. He will get to play at the MLB level as some point. May not be with the Rangers but we shall see.
