won't happen until the Rangers grow a pair and make a move that sends him a message5 biggest developments in the first half of the Rangers' season, including Rougned Odor's overnight maturation
This about Odor from the article above:
It took a village of people - and perhaps a direct threat to his playing time and place on the major league roster - to reach Rougned Odor, but he’s looked like a changed man for the last month. Perhaps the final turning point was a benching for breaking curfew in Kansas City in mid-June.
It’s going to take longer to determine if this is just a “phase,” or if Odor matured overnight.
But since the benching, he hit .282/.371./.513./.884 over the final 22 games before the All-Star break. He’s bunted for hits. He has walked in eight percent of his at-bats (vs. five percent from the start of 2017 through mid-June). He has stolen four bases in five attempts.
Just as impressive: He has played exceptional defense for an even longer stretch. He has regularly worked early and purposefully with instructor Tony Beasley. It included a career-best 41-game errorless streak, the longest of his career. At the All-Star break, Odor has the fourth-best defensive WAR among all second baseman and the fifth-best defensive runs saved total, according to fangraphs.
Now, the Rangers wait for struggling Joey Gallo to have a similar moment of self-realization.
