Anyone else realizing that this baseball season has all the best teams, I mean the really top contenders, in California? All 4 CA teams are good to great, arguably the 3 of the 5 strongest teams all CA teams.

Now that's pretty cool, then realize this occurring right when the East Coast teams are all pretty mediocre at best....Philly, NYY, Boston, NYM

This is a pretty fun time to be a West Coast baseball fan, never really figured it would align quite like this.

Now of course this is just preseason bullshitting which we all know never really pans out, but even the potential being right there....kinda blew my mind is all.

All 4? the Padres are technically a team too, damnit.

but yeah, the west coast is strong right now. i could realistically see all 6 west coast teams at, over, or very near 500 this year. granted I'm a Mariners fan second and may be a bit of a homer.

I like the Mariners this year. Hopefully them moving in the fences doesn't screw up their pitchers too much. Their offense is much improved too IMO. I think they'll finish above .500

my bold prediction is that they finish in 2nd in the AL West, ahead of the A's. I've gotten a lot of hate for that thought though lol.

I like it.

One thing is not a bold prediction, the Astros are going to lose about 120 games in that division.

That's ok, most people here in San Diego have the same problem...

You mean there are allot of bandwagon Padres "fans" who only show up when they're winning? Yeah, I heard you don't have that problem in San Francisco.

Yes, the Padres are a team. And despite the fact that our team payroll is less than you're paying Barry Zito, I'm proud to say that we've tended to compete quite well in the NL West and have some very loyal fans.

Grew up in Middle Tennessee. I'm cursed with loving two AFC teams but root for the Titans against the Chargers. If we fuck up the draft this year, I'm done with the Titans who I've been loyal to since they moved to Memphis.

True.

It was real embarrassing back in '08 and '09 seeing the empty AT&T.

Those were exciting times and we just haven't been able to recapture it. Came close in '09 but we're lightyears away from being competitive again...

Those stats are how many tickets were sold, not how many went to the games. There are lots of season ticket holders that wanted to keep the seats, but didn't go to many games (especially corporate clients). I actually went to 30-40 games in 08-09 for free, in AAA, because I had a close friend who worked with a season ticket holder who never went - he gave her the tix, and she gave them to me. That's how I discovered the Cuban panninni near section 213 - I think it's the only one in the whole park.

I remember a game I went to at the beginning of 2009, probably the 3rd or 4th (home) game of the season. It was one of the only 4:05 starts of the season, and it was mid-week, and it was against some crap team. I couldn't believe how empty the stadium was at first pitch. It was *worse* than I remember Candlestick being - there were maybe 2-3,000 people in the whole place. And it was a nice day, too (weather-wise). I remember thinking "how quickly we fall".

The game was also memorable because it was the one where Joe Martinez took a liner off the forehead.

I'll also never forget the game because of the dumb fuck seated in 334 or 335 who thought it was funny to toss fries close to two (or more) seagulls so that he could watch them fight over it. He started in the 4th inning. You can guess what had happened by the end of the 5th - hundreds of gulls circling overhead, waiting for the next fry to be thrown. It was literally raining birdshit - several hundred birds constantly circling over the fans. I was never so happy to have brought an umbrella to the game (although I had to wash it when I got home). I called an usher over and had him warned, and then tossed out.

Hey, I found the pictures. These were taken about 3 minutes before game start (you can see the people behind home plate for the ceremony).
