Yeah, lets use a small sample size not his overall numbers. In Sept when the team needed him most he posted a ERA nearly 7 and a WHIP of nearly 1.7, spin it how you want, by May you'll be posting WTF were the Tigers thinking!

I brought up the small sample size.. because over nearly 3 months of the season.. he was extremely useful... and to be honest.. even later in the season he was above average. Pelfrey had a WAR of 2.0 according to fangraphs and 1.4 according to ESPN in 2015... so yeah... he was kind of useful last year.

because using WAR... he was actually a very useful starter last year.. that doesn't mean I wanted the Tigers to sign him to a 2 year contract.

Simon was 5-2 thru June with an era in the 2's.

actually.. Simon had a era in the 2's until june 20th.. after that his ERA was disgusting.. His ERA in July was 7.26... His Era in Aug was 7.20.. and his ERA in Sept was 5.57... Alfredo Simon's WAR was -.7 according to ESPN... so yeah...

i get you don't like the guy.. but a season where you finish with a 1.7 WAR / 4.26 ERA is not horrible for a back end starter.. I am just not going to agree with the fact he was horrible. Mike Pelfrey's ERA and Whip were not far off from Ventura of the Royals.. and was better than the stats Cueto put up for the Royals...

Being honest.. even talking about a #4 or #5 starter is retarded... If you get 30 starts out of your #5 starter and he gives you 4.25 era.. you probably aren't going to complain. Now I would be going nuts if my so called ace in Ventura was tossing 4+ era's.
