I am absolutely in the minority but I would take Mantle over Mays.

I am absolutely in the minority but I would take Mantle over Mays.

Mays is the better overall player, thanks to his defense... But Mantle was decent enough in the field that we can focus on the difference in their bats... Where Mantle was better... Not significantly, but still better... Mantle had better ALL TIME GREAT seasons with the bat than Mays did..

Mantle was a better hitter and just getting on base, but Mays was better at driving in runs and he was more of a threat on the bases. Mays also more of a double or triple machine. You can't go wrong with either.
