In the last nine games, the Giants have 5 blown saves.

And in those nine games, they have not had a two-out RBI in six of them, losing four.
The 'pen is getting worn down and there isn't much to do about it, unless you think keeping an ineffective starter in the game is an option, or running up the starter's pitch count.

Well that was the definition of a gutpunch loss. One of 70....one of 70....one of 70....
As I said above this was the first one. By the 70th game of '16 we already had 3 of these: blown lead in the ninth ending in loss. And it was about to get a lot worse. So I think we're in a better position pitching wise than '16, although we don't have that 6.5 gm lead.

In ‘16 we had the starting. This year we have the bully.

Pick your poison.

The good news is there's a clear path to the starting improving. But the runway is getting shorter...

Until last night we were 31-0 when leading heading into the 9th. Had to happen.

Exactally.

Granted, I didn’t watch/follow the game, so I don’t have the emotional pain associated with the loss that you guys do, but come on. Losses happen. And this bully has been incredible this year. But stumbles happen.

Relax.

Actually everyone I'm seeing in this thread agrees with you, no one seems to be freaking out.

cal, I think msgkings was trying to put the loss into perspective, not trying to overreact. At least, that is how I read it.

Hence my “exactly” comment. I was agreeing with his take.

I hate to say it but they are starting to fire on all cylinders, and 'Shaw should be back in a few. Heck, they lead the majors in Hr/jun so far at 34. :gaah:

Gs last in sv% at about 51% Oy

Everyone had them winning the division, I don't see why they wouldn't. We're competing for a wild card, as most of us guessed before the season started

We are only a game closer to the 2nd WC (Nats/Phillies) then we are to the D-Backs. If the Dodgers make their move and pull away, we had better hope the Nats and/or Braves don't do the same. I doubt we can catch the Cubs any easier than we could the Dodgers.

That save percentage probably helped in the bullpen being ranked 20th by ESPN and could be what the FO focuses on, IF they decide to bring him guys via trades at the deadline. However, I think that it is more likely for the FO to stand pat.
