From a Yankee fan that lived through what they did with Joba, that's a risky approach

It is risky. Probably best to just let him go through the growing pains of starting. Figure to be more growing pains against Toronto tonight. Then again, if he can shut them down, that would have to be quite a confidence boost.

Rock - did you see that some group released a report saying the Wells report sucked? You started a thread about it I assume.

Four times in Blue Jays history they had 11 game winning streaks, before the current one. All four times the Jays were golfing in October.

I had high hopes for the Sox going into the season, but it keeps getting worse. Unless something changes and we climb back in contention, Farrell and Cherington will be fired at the all start break. I really hope the next month goes well and were still in contention, but it's not looking that way.

No Lester (too much money) but once again the Red Sox outbid THEMSELVES on Pablo and Hanley

Says the frightened Yankee fan. Not that the Sox were much competition but the bottom of the Jays order shredded them this weekend. If that team makes a move for a starter (Hamels?) they are going to be dangerous.

The bottom on the line-up has been shredding every one lately.

Go to the first post in the AL East smack talk thread. I had the Yankees third and the Jays finishing ahead of them, but neither going to the playoffs. What the Yankees have done this year has been enjoyable, but I still don't expect them to win.

For 45 years, from 1967-2011, the Red Sox enjoyed nearly perennial contention. The team finished below .500 just six times, and fell to the depths of 10 games shy of the breakeven point just once (1992) in that span.

Now, with a thorough drubbing on Sunday that highlighted some of the 2015 Red Sox’ dreadful inadequacies – particularly on defense, on the bases, and in the bullpen (the starting pitching was simply ‘meh’ rather than atrocious over the weekend) – the team has fallen to those depths for the third time in four years.

Yet even that cluster of implosions (with, of course, a notable championship exception) doesn’t portray fully the depths to which the team has played this year. At 27-37, the Sox have a .422 winning percentage, which would be their worst in exactly a half-century, since they went 62-100 in 1965.

But the Sox’ performance has been worse even than their record might suggest. The Sox have already been outscored by 60 runs this year in their 64 games, and are on pace to get outscored by an astounding 152 runs.

How bad is that? For the sake of context, the two last-place finishers of 2012 and 2014 were outscored by a COMBINED 153 runs. No Red Sox team has been outscored by as many as 100 runs since that 1965 team, which was outscored by 122. No team has been outscored by 150 or more runs since the 43-111 performance (with a -349 run differential) of 1932 that marked the bottom point in franchise history.

The idea that this Red Sox team is approaching a point where the relevant reference point for its “worst since…” struggles is the worst team in franchise history speaks volumes to the shockingly bad performance of the team to date, one where discussions of contention have been tabled, at least temporarily, in favor of those about dignity.

Bud Black relieved of his duties. El Hammer must be happy.

Bit harsh - this weekend was SD's first series loss since May 24th and it came vs. the second-best record in the majors. Tough biz.

If he's still a Padres fan, I don't really see how even getting a new manager can make him too happy.
